    Suspension Ideas

A pet peeve of mine is that Mustangs Plus sells springs rated at 525, but markets them as 620. The 525 crush rate number is from their catalog. They say the 620 is the wire diameter. Others like Maier sell 620 springs that have a crush rate of 620 lbs/inch. Two totally different springs. It's no...

    Exhaust

2+2, Although I respect your knowledge of vintage mustangs, I have to disagree with you on the exhaust. Opening it up made a huge difference. It drove one way to the muffler shop and was a totally different car driving it home. I would have agreed with you the day before. Of course the 331...

    Exhaust

BTW What came off was: stock log manifolds, 2" down pipes, jumped to 2 1/4 by the trans, no crossover, flow masters dumped in front of the rear end. VERY LOUD!

    Exhaust

If you are on a tight budget, I'd go hipo manifolds. If you can afford GOOD headers, I'd go that way. By "good", I mean ball and socket at the lower connection, 3/8" flange up top and heavy duty tubing with ceramic coating. And doesn't hang low. I'm not talking about tri-y's. In preparation...

    Suspension Ideas

I don't have first hand experience with the Air over Leaf set up, but it looks like something you would put on a "cruiser" where you wanted ride hide control. I'd never put it on something I wanted to handle well. You MIGHT get it to work, but there are waaaay too many variables to play with...

    Does Leaf Spring Brand matter?

I’m partial to the Maier racing leafs because they load the leafs towards the front so it minimizes wheel hop. I got rid of my under-rider traction bars after installing them.

Whats your guess on my hp?

Your heads and intake are really going to hold you back. A RPM/Stealth and some aftermarket heads would really help and you wouldn't give anything up (except some $$).

    RHS Heads vs Canfield?

I've used Cam Research as well. The applications were different so I can't comment "who's better". I will say the buying experience was very different. Call C/R tell him what you got and what you want it to do, and the cam is in the mail in a day. CI will take longer and you will talk about...

    RHS Heads vs Canfield?

Before Canfield closed shop (retired) Jay Allen was a dealer and very familar with the heads. I'd call him and get cam and springs from him. He'll design a cam to work with those heads and help work out the rest of your combo. Camshaft Innovations - Home

    66 289 high idle issues

This sounds way wrong. With vac adv, disconnected it idles at 8* BTDC, and then advances a "couple of degrees" when you rev it? That's a problem. You are going to want something like ~30-36* total by 3,000 rpms, not a couple of degrees. Every car is a little different. That's for the the...

SBF intake manifold choices on a 5.0 354 HP Crate

I'd do something a little different. Single plane, low rise would be better suited to that motor. Weiand 7515 - Weiand X-CELerator Intake Manifolds - Overview - SummitRacing.com

    Suspension Rebuild Tips Please

Ramps are fine. In the back I've put a jack under the rear end until it just barely comes off the jack stands, then tighten the leafs. One other thing in case no one told you. When you set the car on the ground, that will NOT be the height it will sit at. You have to roll it around a little...

anyone bought anything from LAUREL MOUNTAIN MUSTANG

I used them ~ 4yrs ago for suspension parts. Prices were good, but quality wasn't. Spring perches didn't match and one was incorrectly assembled. UCAs were cheap knock offs of the originals. I had tire rubbing issues with the new arms (same wheels/tires). I ended up trimming the arms by the...

BTW, how big is this cam? What are the basic specs? What color are the plugs?

    Running Rich Or ?

Some things to think about... Hows the fuel filter? Could crud have gotten into to the carb? How old is the carb? I'd pull the covers over the metering rods and make sure they move freely up/down into the jets. If one or both rods weren't pulling down, it would run rich. What is your vacuum at...

    Suspension Rebuild Tips Please

One tip that is left out of many manuals is after everything is back together, keep the LCA bolt loose until the weight of the car is back on it. Then torque it. Same holds true with the leaf spring shackles. If you tighten everything up when the car is in the air, the suspension won't...

comp cams 292h cam kit? how is performance?

You guys are arguing apples to oranges. This should be "solid vs hyd" and/or "roller vs flat". Crossing the lines has to many variables. Solid is gonna make more power and make a faster car over a hydraulic. A roller will outlast a flat lifter. Whether a HR makes more power over a SFT...

comp cams 292h cam kit? how is performance?

Blkford nailed it. Go with a solid lifter cam. 19 yr old, 4.3, mostly strip? Why would you want to go hydrolic? Back in the day my DD 289 saw 7,000 every day. A couple of years ago I had custom SFT in my 331 similar to a 270S and it was totally streetable (and I handed a brand new vette his @ss...
