Engine 4.6 Oil Pan Differences Gt, Mark Viii, Town Car

Is this motor going in a factory five cobra replica? If so, be aware that you need an aftermarket pan which is shallower. Otherwise, the stock pan hangs below the frame and that's just asking for trouble. I, wouldn't be surprised if this is true for other manufacturers too. I am building a...

    Quarter Million...

Way to go. Sounds like it is doing well. I have just over 225k on my 97 gt. Everything still works and the power is better than ever. Changed the chain guides around 180k, but other wise, never opened the engine. I don't drive a much asI used to, so the miles are racking up much slower now. My...

    New Daily Driver

Yup, growing family here too. I can fit one car seat in the back seat of the mustang without a problem, long as I have no other passengers. The passenger seat gets scooted forward, and it is easy enough with just me and the little one. My wife has a small SUV (escape) and it works great for...

    New Daily Driver

My mustang still makes a great daily driver for me. I bet it has more miles than any of the Honda daily drivers above, with over 225k. The gas mileage is reasonable, it isn't difficult to get over 20mpg, even in town. Insurance is cheap, taxes cheaper, never left me stranded, easy to work on...

    Scca Autocross And Weight Reduction

The unfortunate part of all that weight loss: it came off the rear tires. You may find the car to be a bit more tail happy next season. ;) Getting weight off the nose can be more challenging. I didn't look through all the rules... but here are a few ideas: battery relocation (to trunk)...

    Losing My Abs

I don't recommend it, but, sounds like you are looking for something like this: http://www.prbmachining-absdeletemanifolds.com/ Alternative, you could build your own with instructions here: http://www.bullseyetechnology.net/ABSentABS.htm Or you may be able to disable it by putting the switched...

    Loose Pinion Nut

I fully understand that pinion drag (and hence preload) is dependent on the amount the crush collar is crushed, and not torque on the pinion nut. I demonstrated this in my prior posts. I am certain the rear end is assembled properly. It worked great for a while, but I have slowly felt it...

    Loose Pinion Nut

The last time I tightened the pinion nut, I ended up over-crushing the crush collar (150ft*lbs I recall?). I took the carrier out, replaced the collar with a new collar, installed a new nut and torqued the nut until I got the desired rotational pinion drag. Drag was measured by an in*lb torque...

    Loose Pinion Nut

The pinion nut on my 97 GT keeps backing off. The previous several time I installed the nut, I did everything correctly: new crush collar, new pinion nut and torqued the pinion nut to get the proper drag on the pinion. This time, I am not wasting so much time. I am thinking 100 ft*lbs of...

    Rear Brake Install 2001 V6

Spiral cups? Not sure what you mean there... but the piston does need to be rotated CCW to be pushed in. Takes a special tool and a bit of grunt to push it in. Otherwise, it is a straight forward job just like any other brake job.

    Coyote Swap

Sure, it could be done, but why not start with a 4.6L car? That would save a ton of work because you'll be starting with an 8.8 rear end, the right K-member, a transmission that could be bolted up and so on. Do a search for the 4.6 swap into a V6 and you'll get an idea. On top of that, you'll...

    96 Gt Won't Turn Over.

Agreed, replace the starter. It could have a bad winding, so if it stops in just the right position, it has no torque to start turning the next time you try to start.

    T-45 Question

I will second the point that there is no reason to drop the trans just to replace the TOB. It is an annoyance, but you can keep driving it like that until something else comes up... like clutch replacement. And yes, the ford racing TOB is far superior to other aftermarket TOBs. I used the TOB...

    2000 Mustang 3.8 Base...rear Seal Leak Help?

There are no specific tests... you'll just have to look around. If the leak is dripping from between the bell and block, it's quite likely to be the rear main. Look at the sides and top of the bellhousing/block to make sure it isn't dripping from above from something like a valve cover or oil...

    Switch To Conventional Oil?

I have been running 10W-30 in my 4.6 for a while now. I used to run thinner oil in the winter, but gave that up a few years back with the higher mileage. I like the idea of a motorcraft semi-synthetic. I would probably feel ok going 5k miles on that. I usually put 7k on mobil1 before changing it.

    Abs/traction \control Problem

Yes, traction control is integrated into the ABS module. They share the ABS controller and ABS sensors. Fix your ABS issue and you'll likely solve the TC problem. Codes can be pulled from the ABS system... either by a shop/dealer or yourself if you are creative or have the right tools. Do...

    Switch To Conventional Oil?

My gt has gotten Mobil1 since around 40k miles. With over 222k miles now, the valve seals are a little tired. I get the tell tale puff of smoke leaving a long stop light or on a hot start after sitting a bit, and it is worse in the summer. I have heard synthetics, and particularly Mobil1...

    T45 To Tr3650

I guess it would be just the shift lever. The 3650 has the shifter which is attached to the trans, but not the lever which attaches to it. I found a couple T45's locally... I might be ahead just to pick up one of these so I don't have to do the job twice.

    T45 To Tr3650

I broke the T45 *again*. It is stuck in 4th gear, so I suspect it is a the same clip which broke last time. Luckily, I have a 04 TR3650 sitting in the garage. It was originally slated for the cobra build, but I haven't gotten to it yet. So I would like to install the TR3650 in the 97GT while...

Anybody Using Energy Or Poly Front Control Arm Bushings?

You may also need a machine shop to help you press the old bushings out and press the new ones in. Just depends on the type of bushings you purchased and your abilities/tools. I put poly bushings in my 88, and yes, the handling was sharper, but at the expense of more harshness. Coil overs...
