    The oil seperator provides a path for crankcase pressure to go out the valve cover to the intake. When you've got a turbo pushing boost through the intake the pcv valve gets held shut... pressure has to go out somewhere. An NA 2.3 doesn't have this problem and doesn't need an alternate path...

    A leaking noise is usually a vacuum leak. You might wanna see if you've got any ratty lines. My latest xr4ti had loads of leaks when I first got it. All the vacuum lines looked original... it doesn't take much to go through and replace them all.
