Bringing an old 289 back to life

it sounds like its rebuild time. you have too much discrepancy between all the cylinders. if there is a head gasket issue, then you need to make sure the block deck and head surfaces are as flat as possible to prevent future such issues.

    408 Stroker build (what heads)

if you have 195cc heads on now, they will do fine. the 205s are a small step up. this is based on your choice of cam for the engine. where the 205s would help is on the top end, where you really dont need the power anyway since you wont be racing, as you have said this is basically a street...

    Will a Mustang radio made for a 1964 - 1966 Mustang Stereo

i have an aftermarket cassette player in my 64 falcon futura. because of an interior trim piece in the car it needs a different radio than the standard falcons use. i didnt cut the dash to use that radio. i would start by going to electronics sales and start measuring head units until you find...

    Rear suspension advice needed

i think the street or track three link rear suspension would be best for your application. as for the front suspension, unless you have already bought it, why spend the money? a good setup, that opentracker racing can help you with, will do about 95% of what the detroit speed suspension will do...

    I6 performance? 1973 250

the 250 can be built to make good power. mustangs and fords had a article where a 250 was built with a turbo and an aftermarket aluminum head and it made 323hp with a relatively mild build. we have a guy on fordsix.com that goes by the user name does10s that has a falcon that indeed runs tens in...

Dual power master cylinder drum/drum conversion kits

does the car have power steering? if so then hydroboost power brakes are an option.

Dual power master cylinder drum/drum conversion kits

wicked is right, pedal effort on an early mustang, or falcon, with manual brakes isnt that high to begin with, so in reality there is no real need for power brakes.

Dual power master cylinder drum/drum conversion kits

in other words you want to upgrade the stock single master cylinder to a dual bowl master cylinder. there is no kit for this as such, but the conversion is easy enough. if you have power brakes already, then get a drum/drum power brakes master cylinder from a 67 mustang, and plumb it in. you...

    347ci/ t5 transmission help

ok first you need to get the correct flywheel for your bell housing, with the right balance factor for your rotating assembly. second the biggest clutch you can put on the 157 tooth flywheel is 10.5", so that also needs to change.

Do i really need the metal oil pan gasket?

no you dont need it if you dont mind burning a lot of oil and have the remnants cake up on the underside of the intake and cause driveability problems. otherwise yes you do need it.

Recommendations for a Disk Brake Kit for my 1967.

chockstang and opentracker both have the original style disc brake kits that used the kelsy/hayes four piston calipers, and they are reasonably priced and complete. thats my advice. you can find their kits here...

the weak point is the oiling system, but only when the RPMs are turning over 8000 which he wont be doing on the street.

    65 289 spark plug gap/popping!

yo4u dont need to contact edelbrock, your local speed shop should have the jets and metering rods to make the changes. start by seeing what you have in the carb now, my thought is a 99 jet, not sure about the metering rod. but you can get matched pairs. i went to a 92 or 92 jet in my old grand...

    Electric fan

wicked is right, go for the taurus fan and larger radiator. the taurus fan should be quieter than aftermarket fans, and pulls enough air through the rad to keep the engine cool. i recommend running a relay in the system, preferably one controlled by a temp sending unit, and upgrading the...

    65 289 spark plug gap/popping!

then what you are experiencing is called after burn. usually caused by a rich fuel mixture that keeps burning well after the exhaust valve opens. you likely need more timing and/or less fuel. my advice is to attend to this ASAP as the result can be exhaust valve burning in the long run.

    65 289 spark plug gap/popping!

is the popping coming from the carb or the exhaust? since you played with the timing and got a change i would say that your timing is off. start by setting your timing at 10 degrees btdc at idle, and work from there. as for the plug gaps, if you have the stock ignition, then set them at...
