03' Cobra Spoiler INSTALL on 02' GT, Questions!

Hello, I just got an 03' Cobra spoiler for my GT. I wanted to know how many holes would need to be filled after putting the spoiler on? I have a 2002 GT, with the stock spoiler. I need to tell my body guy how many holes need to be filled in order to get an estimate. Also, would the Cobra spoiler use any of the stock GT spoiler holes? Or would I just need to have all the holes filled and drill new ones for the Cobra spoiler? I know the Cobra spoiler has 5 screws on top and 2 at the back end under the brake light area.

I think the stock spoiler has 4 holes. Not sure if the holes on the back of the spoiler would line up with any of the top holes of the Cobra spoiler.

Haha, yeah Ive been searching for one for awhile now. Mainly just looking on Ebay, but they always sell for $300-400, and thats crazy. Then on a local SVT board I happened to see a guy selling one in the classifieds section. He had swapped to a S-281 spoiler and had this one sitting in storage, no scratches with all mounting hardware and brake light. So I picked it up the next day for $200, now I just have to get it put in.

Im wondering if I should just get the 4 original mounting holes filled and drill all new ones for the Cobra spoiler.

May be cheaper to just find a decklid off a v6 or gt that didn't have a spoiler from the factory...that's what I'm waiting for...

You're going to have to drill a bunch of holes for the cobra spoiler.

You sure about that? I searched the site and the only Cobra spoiler I found was the 94-95' Cobra rear spoiler for $575.

Yes! I was hoping you would respond to my thread! I could not remember your screen name nor find the thread you posted on the install, used the wrong key words to search for it.

Just a few questions after looking at your writeup.

1. Where did you get the new wiring harness? Do you have a part number or link as to where I can purchase it online? How much was it??

2. How exactly did you line it up in order to drill holes? Did you just lay it on top of the trunk and then go around the studs with a sharpie? Were the bolts attached, or did you take those off and only the screws were there?

Also, what size drill bit do I need to use?? And, what kind of drill bit did you use?

3. For the double sided tape you used, where is it in the pictures? Is it that red stuff all long the edges of the spoiler? And did you just put it over the black trim that is already on there, thats what it looks like, just making sure.

And did it help? No water drip after washes?

I am having my holes filled because I am getting a great deal. Around $200 to have the spoiler painted, 2 front holes filled, and deck lid painted. The person is an automotive painter in my local Mustang club who always gives out great deals and does great work!

i lucked out and got one that was the same color as my car hadnt time to get installed yet should look good on my 03 gt with the mach 1 wheels and bullit seats, with the roush shifter, what does that make my car?

i like how on a mustang you can mix parts be it cobra roush saleen, whatever, and make it your own, i just dont like when people put cobra emblems on a gt or worse a stock v6.

Yeah I totally agree. I like how there are many different models with different parts to choose from that will work on any other Mustang of the same body style. I am not a fan of aftermarket body parts, such as Stalker kits and such. Id much rather buy a part that can be found on another Mustang and encorporate it into my own. I also would never misbadge, Im proud of my GT and wouldnt mask it with Cobra or SVT emblems.

2. Put a little putty on the ends of the bolts coming out of the spoiler, and just set it down (little bits of putty mark the spots roughly). I don't remember the drill bit size, but whatever will just fit inside the 2 original holes.
3. The red stuff you see is the double sided tape (without the covers removed yet) Any thick 3M double sided tape will work. I have a little water drip since the 3M tape I was given wasn't all that thick, but i just haven't gotten around to changing it yet (Senior in college, pretty busy) But, nothing leaks into the inside of the trunk of course.

$200 for filled in holes, and painted spoiler and Decklid is a steal. You can't get a price like that in Los Angeles.

Thanks for all the info Wade! Funny, I am a Senior in College as well. Finishing my last semester here at the U of I (University if Illinois, Champaign-Urbana; Fighting Illini), so I can totally understand how crazy things can be right now. Thats why Im not doing all this until I have a week off for Spring Break, lucky for that or I wouldnt be able to get it done until the semester was over. And yeah I am very lucky to get such a great price, having someone as an automotive painter in one of my local clubs is awesome, cant thank that person enough! I will contact Randy at MD for the wiring harness. And yeah, I didnt even think of just using the old holes to get the drill bit size, haha! I'll just take bits to the hole until I find one that matches up. The putty sounds like a great idea as well, any specific kind you recommend? Other than that thanks for the help! I was hoping to speak to you from the start, as I remember seeing you post pics of your car and the install when you first got it done. I even have pics of your car on my computer, just could not remember your screen name. I have all the info I need now, and will let you know if I have any other questions.
