A coworker offered to trade their 89 gt for my 05 v6 and I was looking for some advise. Both cars have about 136k miles and regular oil changes and maintenance. the 89 has a redone interior but has transmission issue that they'll have fixed if I agreed to trade. I was wondering about the life expetency of both cars and if this would be a fair trade and would it be an upgrade or down grade for me?

Its going to come down to one thing. Its a 28 year old car..
Then there of course other things to consider, the 05 rides better, drives better, handles better, stops better,is more efficient.way more of a cush daily driver.
Is the 89 stock?
If so,the 05 is probably just as fast.
At the same time the 89 feels, drives, rides like the muscle car it is,way more rugged, and way more of a drivers car.

And I think that's what the deciding factor will be-do you want to drive something way less refined,or do you want to keep all the modern amenities of the newer car?

Value wise I think they are close, the newer may have more curb appeal(maybe lol.)

Its all in what you want, just weigh out the pros and cons, and maybe ask why they wanna trade

The reason she doesn't want it is that she had got it for her boyfriend before they broke up and I do like how my 05 handles but I enjoy the feel of a 5.0 over 4.0 a little bit more

Well... Then I'd add that to the "Pros" column on the list

If it's going to be your daily driver I'm not sure it's a great idea. Like RaggedGT said, 135k miles on a 89 is different than 135k on a 05. There is a lot of potential for the 5.0 though. Do you have any pics of it?

Convertible top looks good. Body looks good, other than the hit spot on the bumper and the foggy one piece headlights.
Is the driver window rolled down,or does it not line up with the top?

It's not online due to some work done where the door wasn't tightened properly

It's probably a $4-5K fox. Hard to say without closer inspection. May go up, may come down.

What do you feel your V6 is worth?

As others have said, the main difference is 136K miles on a 2005 is vastly different than 136K miles on a 1989. Do you know how to turn a wrench and work on your own cars? If not, keep the 2005.

The Fox bodies are great cars, but with them being up there in age, they are really turning into project/hobby vehicles vs basic transportation.

Now, I know there are people that do DD a fox Mustang, but most can probably swap out their transmission in a few hours if needed.

I say the 89 looks nice but sounds like it has some issues here and there. I'd say get it if you really want the car and expect to fix some things soon and down the road. If you're teetering on your choice, I wouldn't do it. You'll kick yourself when you end up with more problems than you intended.

If you want more power may I suggest a tuner and for a throaty V8 noise a cold air intake. Both would cost around $600 together and make the car feel and sound mean. I believe these options are available for an 05.
