what does a stock lx 5.0 run compared to a stock gt. how much of a difference is there, and what is the time difference between an automatic and a 5spd in the same car factory?

The GT "package" only adds maby 50lbs or so over the LX, but usually the LX's were more "base" and the GT's were usually more "loaded" adding weight. The difference between auto and manual is a big one. You can do things to the auto and make it as fast as a manual, but stock for stock, the advantage is all manual, almost a full second in the 1/4.

from nothing to 2 tenths tops betwen lx and GT...lx coupe is almost 400 lbs lighter than a gt though.

up to a second slower in an aod vs. 5-speed.

and i have owned 2 5-speeds, 2 aod's , a GT , 2 notchbacks , and a 'vert

so i know from track times and same driver...not from "my neighbors cousin knows a dude that told his sister"

oh and btw...my aod GT ran 14.40's w/ no belt and cheaters on 3.73's
my stock as a rock 5-speed notch ran 14.27 on street tires and 2.73's
my stock 'vert ran 15.20's w/ 3.73 and street tires
my old 5-speed notch ran 13.20's w/ 4.10's and cheaters

I have nothing productive to add!

There are fast cars and slow cars in every form. Average between GT's and LX's -- they will be the same. Average between 5-speeds and AOD's -- the 5-speeds will be faster by quite a bit.

For comparison's sake -- I had an 89 GT that I ran 14.1@98 stock on street tires with, and have seen similar cars run 16's. It's a total crapshoot what you end up with.
