What highway is that? Asking for a friend.

State Highway One runs the length of the South Island and North Island of New Zealand. A small section of its 2 ,033 km 1,263 mile length is the Presidential HigHway, a nominal marathon section from Gore to Clinton, from the Rounadbout at Route Station 858 to the railway line X-ing at RS 817. The Bra pictuture is elseware in the South Island, added for dramatic effect.

Bra Fence, Cardrona Valley

No one really knows the full story, but legend has it that a group of women partying at the Cardrona Hotel on New Year's Eve 1998 decided to take off their bras and hang them on the fence for safe-keeping. More bras started appearing until the fence resembled something out of the women's liberation movement. After numerous attempts to dismantle it, the fence has now been shifted and rebranded "Bradrona" to raise money for the Breast Cancer Foundation.

Incidently, sometime after World War II, with the overun from the post 1945 rebuild, the USA formally offered to build a proper stem to stern four lane divided highway for New Zealand, at a reduced rate, with Army personel to help, but the Government said 'Nyet".

When President Clinton came to visit, it was renamed the Persidential Highway, and some funny bu99er decided to put a supplementry placard under it, reading "Lewinsky Aveneue, SH93 via Matuara Alternate Route". It was quickly removed out of respect to, um, both parties.....

I could drive up to his place and park the exxon valdez in his driveway and stand around in baggy pants, my shirt buttoned up to my neck and my ball cap on sideways. A couple fake tattoos on my face would help too.

Kate would likely shoot me but it would still be funny.

Hopefully he will be back....with PICTURES. Regardless of politics, we all have the same basic needs. Shelter, food/water, and a tribe. We are a tribe...sometimes we don't get along. Sometimes we fight. Sometimes we laugh at our or other's mistakes. But in the end, this is a virtual garage tour that everyone is on. I for one, enjoy tagging along on the journey to see the Monster come from a dream, to a plan, thru execution, and now modification. I keep hoping it inspires me to do more on my hoopty. Alas, it has failed so far.

Maybe he is just busy making the gaming chairs for his kid.

Twas the night before Christmas, and all through this site, all of stangnet was quiet, tucked in for the night. The members were sleeping, hoping that come Christmas morn, their stockings would be stuffed with blue oval porne.;)

Here's hoping that you and your's have a Merry Christmas.

And to all a good night.

So here it is. The day that used to take forever to come when you were little. Now it's here to remind you that you're gonna be another year older in 7 days.

All the rest of this family is still asleep, or just getting around, or still at his respective house...that leaves just me.

To sit around and write.

Too many words.

I wanted this to be a different Christmas season...I wanted to slow it down....I told Kate I was gonna have a list.

#1. I wanted to get back in touch with my estranged daughter. A product of an ill fated first marriage. Distance, different lifestyles, and her upbringing basically drove a wedge between us. I wanted to change that.
#2. I wanted to donate a day to help the homeless. My company reimburses us for that...all I needed was the time off.
#3. I wanted to dress to the nines, have the wife as my date. And go somewhere nice for dinner.
#4. Throw a big Christmas party...have a live band, invite a bunch of people...

So in the end, I have this kinda "naughty and nice" kinda list..

I get in touch with my daughter. To my surprise, she is equally receptive to the idea. We both exchange written letters first, then we talk. It's not gonna be much different than it was before, but at least we know it can be.

I can't get the time off, I don't ask. I don't really try. #2 is a complete fail.

Kate gets her mom last Friday. She won't leave her mom at our house by herself despite the fact that she wouldn't go if we asked anyway...That leaves no weekend between then and now to go out. The suit remains in the closet.
We were married 12/31/85... There still is this week coming up to do that, AND I have the perfect reason/excuse/occasion to do all of that, except that......I hate going out on New Year's Eve. Noisy people, set over priced menus, packed restaurants, drunk drivers coming the other way.......the difference one day makes has us going out either before, or after the actual holiday.
I'll save the suit and tie for then.

The actual Christmas party was huge. 30 people don't sound like much, until they're all walking around your house. The band was great.

So that brings me back around to today..I guess I'm 50/50 for the year. But I still have this week to make a difference.....it's not too late.

Back in the TIG business. I asked for and received a cheap Chinee 200 amp tig/stick machine, and a new welding hood. It claims to be aluminum capable, so I'll try that as soon as I can get to the welding supply store to buy a small bottle of argon, a regulator, and a hose to be able to test it out.

Good deal on reconnecting with your daughter. My 54 yr old brother just recently found out he has a 25 year old daughter he didn't know about. And a grand daughter. Life is always full of curve balls. Sometimes they bite and you swing and miss. Sometimes they hang like an over ripe orange and you jack a grand slam. And sometimes, the sob is using spit and it hits you in the face and breaks your skull. Life's like that.

We couldn't get a table anywhere. Serves me right for deciding to get married on NY's eve. For weeks in advance I tried to find a place but between the hours of 5pm, and 9 pm all of the places we wanted to go were booked. The one place that wasn't was charging 75.00 ea. for a set menu. That wasn't including drinks....that woulda made this a 300.00 dinner after the tip.

I gotta problem paying 300.00 for dinner.

We stayed home. She cooked two filets, and a pound of king crab legs. We had a really nice dinner, and it only cost 85.00.

Yeah Mike, I dig the problem. I proposed to my wife on Valentine's day. Every guy in town is trying to be romantic to their significant other that night. Gets expensive trying to stand out!

I fixed that problem for this year.:taco:

Sounds like a fine meal! I cooked bacon wrapped filet's NYE and big beautiful center cut pork chops with cornbread and black eyed peas yesterday! I married my wife on her birthday...so it helps me remember both. If I ever forget, I'll have to move into the murder house with @Davedacarpainter
