Hey yall,

I will be posting pics here of the current build I am doing. This will be a turbo set up with very mild street manners.

Comp Cams xe266
Early Casting TW170s
ARP studs
Custom Accessories - Electric ps pump and driverside alternator
Explorer Edis 8 Crank Trigger Ignition
1100cfm Billet TB on Victor Clone with Big Rails
Megasquirt PNP
Tremec T56
ABS Delete
And eventually a T70 turbo liquid to air setup

This has been a long time in the making. Its taken me years to collect the part I need. Occasionally I will post pics and tips on the build.

Cleaning of gaskets with a razor blade. Its best to do this delicately so as to not score the surface.

Pull each lifter and associated dogbone and keep them on top of the cylinders they belong to before doing the cam andtiming chain. This will insure the lifers a fit to their original bores. Also make sure the oil hole on all the lifters point up toward the spider upon reinstall. Use lots of assem lube on cam, lifters, and dogbone ends.

Not impressed with Comp Cam quality. Had to be real careful installing it so the sloppy casting spine didnt scar a cam bearing. Jammed a phillips in the end to hold it steady during install. Went real slow.

Used no hardening clay from hobby lobby to check PTV clearance. Rocker nut was finger tight. Ended up with .120in clearance on the intake valve. Thats the absolute minimum i would feel comfortable running. .170in on the exhaust. The xe266 is a mild cam with a ton of lift. This paired with the moster valves on the trickflows should huff pretty well.

ARP didnt include the washers in my stud kit. I waited a week for Summit to send some. I oil soaked the rockers while I waited. Original tw170 heads use 0.5 inch studs so no need for 7/16 bushings.

Non chamfered washers are in. Set the studs. Had to wrench them on even after chasing the threads. Set the out at bottom and backed off a quarter turn. Used lots of lube from packet in ARP box on all threads. Torqued down to 82ft/lbs using correct tightening sequence. Start at 30 to 60 end with 82. Working from center of head. I used graphite gaskets over mls on suggestion of turbo guys. Next up valve lash.

Hello. Have you used an aftermarket ems before? If not we have an entire thread dedicated to it. Welcome looking forward to seeing the build progress.

Few things to note.
What engine dress are you using? The sn95 or explorer dress is easiest to use with the explorer balancer and timing cover. The timing cover will hold the vr sensor in the right position... explorer balancer is shorter than the fox and will cause belt alignment issues also the pulley is not removable...
It's easiest to run the dress from an sn95/explorer.

Ive never used an ems but ms seems pretty strait forward plus it has the bases maps loaded. I will def check out the section on that. I can use all the knowledge i can get on ems stuff.

I switched to the fox timing cover because it allowed me to place the alternator where i wanted and run special valve covers.

Thanks for the interest. This will be a journey.

My advice is from experience I am also edis with fox dress... had to custom mount a trigger wheel explorer balancer will not work.

I run the megasquirt help thread, when you get to that point I can help you with the hardware changes need. Learning curve is steep with the software but I have some videos on YouTube going over the basics.

I run MS, too. Its a good system. Takes a lot of work to get running right. The base tunes should get the car started but getting it ready to drive will take a bit.

a91what has bailed me out of a bunch of stuff and is still helping with stuff.

I'll be checking out this build.
