Hi guys and gals I am new to the 4.6 motor I curently have a 1993 notch and I thinking of buying a 1998 mustang Gt. the guy wants 4500 for it with 125000 miles on it. is this a good deal body and interior look good runs good also. what should i look for in these 4.6 and are they as good and powerful as the 5.0

You'll notice a big difference in low-end torque, or at least I did. You really have to wind these motors out, especially with the NPI versions (94-98 don't as good h/c/i from the factory as the newer ones.)

Sounds like a decent deal for the price though. Most people on this forum mod the cars and i always think its good to get a good price and a few more miles if your going to mod. Anything done to the car yet?

Sounds like a good deal. The 4.6 are good engines alot diffrent from the ol 5.0s. Good luck

Too many miles and you would be better off with a 1999 or newer.

go for the body style you like and the price you like. npi stangs are easily upgraded to PI and cheap. if you have some mechanical knowledge and some help from people on here the PI cams and Pi intake can be added to make clese to the same power as the 99 - 04 stangs.

I love the 98 gt. But I'm biased. Sounds like a good price I paid $5500 for mine in 2003 with 68k miles.

The body style of the 96-98 GT is beautiful, but I will admit that they arent that fast stock. But like the others said, its not that hard to convert them to the 99-up specs. I think you should shop around for one with lower miles though unless you can talk the guy down to $3,500. I used to have a 96 auto GT, black on black leather, and it was slow as hell (no disrespect 96-98 owners), but very reliable & beautiful. If you buy that one, instead of modding it, I would just buy a 99-up complete motor, or a 03-04 Mach 1 crate motor. The Mach motor would make it the ultimate sleeper, especially if you keep it looking stock with the GT4.6L badges.

^ I agree I put a brand new PI 4.6 in and felt a huge difference. A mach 1 motor would be good though but is expensive. A new GT motor is $2k.

Wow...I didnt know they were that cheap...If you think about it, doing the PI heads & intake isnt much cheaper, unless you buy all used parts & install them yourself. Your better off getting the whole new motor. I think the PI conversion kit from parkway ford was $1300 when I last priced them a couple years ago when i had my 96 GT.

Carefully consider what kind of shape the engine/tranny & interior/exterior are in. Then check the prices for a newer Stang. I like my car. At 97K it runs as good as new. Good luck.
