How many of you Mustang Owners (1999-2004) have blown your spark plugs out of the stock heads?

Not I but I know the correct spark plugs to use.

One blew out at 5002 miles. 2003GT; completely stock. I had a Timesert installed, and it has held for 4 years and 12,000 miles so far.

Sorta on topic, but the new 2v heads I got from ford, Casted in 06, have like 7 or 8 threads, twice as many has the heads they were replacing.

I think we also need to factor in who had not done anything to their cars and had plugs blow out compared to those who swapped plugs and then had one blow out.

I've seen more problems with guys swapping plugs or so called checking plugs and not torque them to 13 ftlbs as opposed to people who just left em alone.

Again, this is what I have witness and it may or may not be the maxim.

I blew two when I had the car, one on each side. Both times, plugs were Motorcrafts.

jprovence how much did you pay for the ford heads?

I am contemplating on getting the trick flow heads when it becomes available and when i can see some actual numbers.

I had one come out before. The car I had...somebody at one time replaced the plugs, but it drove it a few thousand miles before it happened. They didn't look too fresh, so they had been in there a while. I know they were changed because they were Champions, not Motorcraft. It took the threads too. I bought a 12 dollar HELP! kit from Murrays....thing held up a few thousand miles, a few dyno pulls, street racing etc...never a problem. Car is now put away for the winter...but I know it'll be fine.

I have a 1998 with 2001 heads. Had one blow out a year and a half ago.

I have about 5k on since I changed plugs to the recommended Motorcraft replacements (platinum, not copper). Followed instructions to the T - cold block, antiseize, loads of dielectric grease for the coil boots, torque to spec/feel. No probs. If one shoots out, I'll just pull a fresher motor from the junkyard!

They were 400/each fully assembled. Ruined the stock set when I blew the motor. FWIW, I replaced the plugs quite a few times, with NGK copper plugs, and never ever had a spark plug problem. Replaced the plugs with the engine hot/ cold, never torqed them to spec, never used anti-seize just good-n-tight. Even had a piston hit the plug, and it was still in the head. My new motor, I am super anal, torqued to spec, anti-seize, cold motor. We shall see. I have the 8 thread head anyways. I'm not worried.

Thanks everyone who responded. I am praying that thi never happens to me but if it does, i will have to see what my options are.

By the way, those of you driving int he winter snow, be careful. just came back from Vegas and driving through the icy roads isnt fun.
