Hey guys, just got my first aod car. Had a few t5 cars. Not gonna swap for a t5 cause it's a low mileage ssp car. Anybody tried to make one work on a budget? Any help is appreciated. Bought a b&m shift kit haven't installed yet.

The B&M is a good kit. AOD is good if you don't make a lot of power. If you start making it fast, your going to want to upgrade the valve body and imput shaft.

An AOD can be made to handle a lot of power. But keep in mind that it takes some money to get it to that point. I had one built to handle 350hp and it only lasted six months. I made the mistake of spraying, with out it being set up for it. There are plenty of places that sell parts for them.

The more I look I see what I'll need. The car is gonna be upgraded slowly so a shift kit, valve body and converter should do for now. I just need to hang with "stock" 5 speed cars for now.

Exactly! I have never heard anyone say that anything with the letters B&M was good for an AOD. Shift kits or converters.

With the Lentech you will have full control of your gears to include holding
2nd and turning OD on and off with a switch or leaving it in D and let the tranny do the work. Lentech claims that you also will not need to upgrade your OD servo because of the improved durability with the VB.

Edge makes a great converter and at a reasonable price.

A hardened 3/4 input shaft is a good investment as is an auxillary cooler and remote transmission filter kit.

AODs generally take more abuse from i could tell when i had one.

the suck up more power and you cant really do anything wrong, it does the shifting so you cant miss shifts or anything.

i beat on my AOD and was fine.

i beat on my t5 and i could tell over time it got weaker.

The B&M shift kit is not bad. I had one in my T-Bird. It's not the best but its not junk.

New question for you guys. Has anybody swapped in 4r70w parts into an aod? read a little about it and it seems that the gearset will go right in along with beefier internals. It would be the same gearset as the motorsport wide ratio kit. I've got a friend who is a ford tech who is willing to try this.

Check out www.clickclickracing.com they have a dedicated Ford auto trans forum and some really sharp guys over there.

Shift kit(I had a transgo but have heard great things about the baumann shift kit as well), big trans cooler, A or A+ OD servo ( do it at the same time as the shift kit) should hold you over for a bit until you decide to do a converter and hardened input shaft since these mods can be done with the trans still in the car.

My GT AOD vert went 14.0s@100mph with no converter and a burned out OD band (the OD band doesn't like WOT with the stock servo) and the mods listed in my sig. VERY consistent.
