The front section is the sump for your oil pump...it holds about a qt...the back is the big dump... Fords have the dizzy up front, which drives the oilpump, hence the sump out front...Chevy has the dizzy in the rear...thats why a Chevy has only one drain plug out back in the oilpan....Hate them GM dizzy's out back...
