1. By advancing a cam (I advanced my stage 1) does it affect idle quality?

2. I am hearing an intermittant hiss from my return fuel line. I traced the hiss up to the regulator and I am pretty positive it is coming from inside the line itself. I have an aftermarket adjustable regulator I bought from 5.0 resto. I figure the noise is from the regulator releasing pressure to keep it at the 37psi i set it at. Shouldnt the pressure release be a constant release and not intermittant?

thanks

Drew

timing

advancing will smooth the idle slightly and also make the car run cooler just make sure it isnt detonating

Rmodel, are you talking about advaning the cam or advancing ignition timing?

Drew, what happens if you remove and cap the vac line on the FPR (so it is not connected to the FPR)?

I have not listened for any noises like that, so I am not sure. The FPR should constantly bypass fuel, and like at idle, it should be fairly consistant in this means.

No great ideas from me though. Good luck.

yeah i think it should be a constant steady release also, not intermittant. I checked the vac line going to the fpr and there is no gas in it so its not leaking. Ill try and cap it off and see what happens. It's crazy, the hiss is pretty loud.....you can hear it if you are changing the fp for example or even setting the timing. thanks hissin!
anyone else on the cam timing or hiss from return line?

thanks

i think most of their cams do, thats why the trick flow cams pull pretty decent up top. I advanced it 2 more degrees to get even more topend...suggested by thumper.

thanks

ok update, called kirban and they said that if the reg was bad then there would either be no pressure or very low pressure if the diaphragm had even a pinhole leak in it. come on guys, any idea? I thought maybe the line between the rails and under the car may be plugged but its perfectly fine. I havent checked the fuel rail though. any idea what could cause a hissing noise from the return line? what if it was partially clogged? maybe someone else could listen on their stang and see if they hear the same noise...maybe its normal but i doubt it.

thanks

Drew

If the return line was clogged, the pressure reading would be higher in low demand situations (i.e. idleing).

Otherwise I would start spraying some oil or other non-flammable liquid around that area and see if it shuts up the noise.

I dont have any ideas but figured a bump might help.

Good luck.
