2001 GT Engine code p0174 & p0153

Are you trying to determine for certain IF the O2 sensor is bad? It seems to me that there are two choices. Either replace the O2 sensor for purely diagnostic reasons. Then IF the DTC code comes back, then at least you will know that it's not the O2 sensor.

Or find the vacuum leak that's likely the left side of the motor. Note the leak could be from sources such as:

• Fuel injector O-rings
• valve cover gaskets
• EGR valve
• Intake manifold on the left side.

If you want to KNOW one way or the other then an advanced ODB2 scanner is needed. Compare the LTFT between bank 1 and 2. Compare the O2 voltage between bank 1 and 2. Do they switch?

The PCM sometimes stores a freeze frame worth of data that is saved at the time a DTC code is generated. This can sometimes help with diagnosis. This is NOT the same as being able to monitor individual PID's. Nor is it the same as being able to graph multiple PID's over time.

However there is still a bunch of useful trouble shooting that is available with an ODB2 scanner that can access generic ODB2 data and display a single PID. I have solved many a car problem using just such a simple scanner.

The Scantool you have is a useful - non Passive unit, and is capable of performing the necessary Troubleshooting methods commonly used in correctly identifying/diagnosing/correcting your anomaly..
Major drawback of Innova’s is the lack of a good Users Manual.

Hi, wow- great deal! Yes, you can read the Data as it is Streaming live- Car Idling or Driving, and view the Sensors alternating values as needed (Have a Friend view it if Driving) viewed from the Computers prospective, translated. Your Drive Cycle records when you initiate it & start Driving, “Freeze Frame” is the Scantools ability to “Freeze” all the Data when the CEL is thrown- but also records the previous Data before the event, so you can view/compare each Sensors actions/reactions to begin to rule out issues- question others. You can communicate with both OBD1 & 2 Vehicles (Limited on OBD-1, but as effective as it gets) and ABS, Transmissions, etc.. Hence: all the other Connectors that came with it. Innova’s don’t come with a good users guide, for most of their Scantools. So, it had no Manual, as it never came with it when originally purchased..
It’s something you just need to Read & practice with (knowing all the time you can’t interfere with the CPU’s Programming with a Scantool like this, best description, it’s ROM access. All the abbreviations people use are available in the Manual, and the Tool. If you don’t see it- google it. Lots of info out there..
You may only monitor, reset CEL’s- but you cannot corrupt Data or anything, or hurt your CPU, it’s Programming, Sensors, or Car. Many Commercial grade Scantools have the ability to alter Data, here- you have the ability to perform, step by step, with all the Tools you need to diagnose your issue (As far as the CPU goes). Keep in mind, most of the time a Code comes up about a specific Part- Buying that Part is not the solution, it’s NOT that part that’s the issue, it’s just involved. Experiment with it & learn, look on YouTube for Videos on OBD2 Diagnostics, or your Meter- Specifically.
You should have access to the Free Database in which the “Top Fixes” documented by huge #’s of Dealers, Auto Repair Shops, for every Code or group of Codes that may appear in your Car- are there. You click the Button, and there are the most common repairs that were necessary to correct the issue. It’s very accurate. I have an older Actron Scantool that has this “Code Connect” Coined by Actron, exact same thing.. You can hook your Tool up to a Computer, and Freely download the newest Software versions, newest Cars, improvements & it stores all your Cars, and Codes/repairs, etc. that you’ve done in the past.
