I’ve been looking at this 01 cobra for sale that has over 100k miles, I want to know what problems these have. I read on some reviews about the transmission being really bad and also that the timing chain tensioner going bad too, but those reviews were from 2001-2003 when the car barely came out so I was wondering if these problems were fixed or it’s still an issue.

Both the engine and trans should be fine if they were maintained correctly. 100k is nothing to 4.6 engines. The trannies cant handle a ton of power but they never really had issues other than bent shift forks due to bad shifts.

The shift forks were problematic from the factory, not necessarily due to bad shifts. I think there were two TSBs about shift forks from '01 - '03? By now, they should have been been replaced if they were defective or misaligned.

Keep plenty of fresh oil in it and don't bang the limiter, the rods and to a lesser extent the pistons are the weak point if you beat on it. Put a quality shifter in it with adjustable stops to save the shift forks. Adjustable aluminum quadrant with firewall adjuster and an OEM only clutch cable is a necessity I think.
