I just bought a 2002 mustang gt. It has a set of flowmaster duals on it allready. What is the quickest and cheapest way of gettin about 400 hp out of it.
nitrous is rough on a motor isnt it? and a supercharger will i have to drop compression ratio. by the way what is the compression ratio on my 02 gt. what other options do i have. dont know much about these cars.
Supercharger is the best way to get close to 400 without anything else. I think the compression ratio is around 10.5:1. NItrous really depends on how big of a shot you have. The more boost you have the lower the compression ration will need to be unless you want to run race fuel to keep from having detonation.
stock compression is around 9.5:1 (could be 9.8:1 not quite sure.) PI SWAPPED 96-98's run about 10.4:1.
Either way you can run a blower with both comp ratio's but have to have a great tune with the highest.
Basically, there is no cheap way to do it. YOu have to buy a blower and ALL the supporting mods (fuel, suspension, tires, and most important.... the driver mod).
It is possible to get 400 hp NA at the crank but it'll cost ya(and you'll be nowhere close to 400 hp to the wheels) but if you want 400 hp at the wheels your cheapest and best bet is a supercharger. Going NA will cost you I'm guessing 50 - 75% the cost of a supercharger and at the end of the day you'll have less power and streetability. But you can buy one piece at a time so while it costs more you don't have to spend as much money all at once.
I think Paxton and Vortech are the cheapest ones out there and they'll run ya around $3500 -$4000 just for the kit. Another option is to be patient and get a used one online via Craigslist, Ebay or Mustang forums.
Just supercharge it and call it a day is my advice.

ima just buy a good used vortech or sometimes i see good deals on a 03-04 cobra motor
on craigslist as an open option
i put a blower on my car when it was still bone stock and saw 350 rwhp, which is probably right around 400 bhp. it definitely wasn't cheap though. nitrous is the cheapest way to get there, but it only sprays at WOT... and how often do you drive around town at WOT? get a blower...
Don't bother pissing about with Naturally Aspirated mods. You'll never see the power you want and it'll cost you as much as it would have had you done it with a power adder in the first place. Nitrous is fine, but its only there as long as the bottle is full and you won't touch 400rwhp with just it and stock internals. At least not for long. If it were my money, a blower would be your best option. Particularly of the Positive Displacement variety. All the torque and horsepower of a big block V8, but your gas mileage won't suffer. You want 400 reliable rear wheel horsepower in one fail swoop...pay attention to this thread.
