Hi all. I have an 05 GT with the upgraded Shaker 500 6-disc CD/MP3 player and door-mounted subs.

Since I got the thing, MP3s will rarely play. I've gotten a disc to work 2x or so, but that is all. There is a technical service bulletin out on the unit at Ford, so I had it switched out and a new one put in. The new unit STILL will not read my MP3 discs.

Has anyone else had this problem? Or maybe the unit just cannot read the MP3s the way my particular program burned them?

Thanks,
Sarah

What file structure are you using (how deep)? If you are burning more than 8 levels deep (not sure about the Shaker unit, check the manual), my mp3 player wouldn't play. Try to see what the ones that play have in common, as well as what is different about the ones that don't, and post the results. Also, you probably would get more feedback posting in the 2005 tech section. Here's a link to the TSB in the 2005 forum:

first port of call should be RTFM (Read The Frigging Manual), no offense.

But just make sure your mp3 discs are conforming to the standard required by the unit. If still a no go give your dealer a ring and get them to explain over the phone or go and see them and get them to getting working while your there.

The Shaker systems are made by Visteon (I believe); check and see if they have any useful information. After looking around in these forums, it looks like you are not alone with that particular problem.

try using another program to make your discs. I use "Nero", never had a problem yet. Some of the other programs have caused compatability problems for me in the past. Also keeping the burn speed lower as you mentioned you tried helps. I usually make them at 4x.

First of all the burn speed should always be 12x or lower..nero will probably be the most compatible burner software to work with..also make sure to try closing the session (ie: dont do a multisession disc) once a disc is closed you cant write to it any more but sometimes some units will only play them this way..also try a different brand of cd-r and try not to use cdrw

Try using a diffrent type of recordable disk, it should fix the problem.

Thats a new one on me, but provided it doesn't copy with ERRORS it should make no odds what speed you copy at. The binary code doesn't know or tell the mp3 player that it was copy over at high speed.

If you software/hardware is working fine then burn at optimum speed.

Thanks for your feedback, guys. I anticipated having my entire music collection at my fingertips thanks to the magic of MP3s...the $150 stereo I had in my old car could do it, but the Mustang's cannot...what a disappointment!

I have tried a few different CD burning programs & CD brands...but the fact that my stereo will read some of them once and then never again tells me there is something wrong with the stereo itself.

Oh and 300 bhp/ton, I did read the friggin manual, inside and out. I am also married to a Ford engineer who cannot find anyone with an answer. The dealer is clueless so far- we're waiting for a word back.

And I like this guy. ------>

That is all for now.

take out the unit, sell it to someone who wants it, and then go and buy an alpine unit that reads mp3's and your problem will be solved
