It is my understanding, that the 289, 302 and 5.0 blocks are all the same. Correct me if I am wrong. Now, will the heads on up from a 5.0 fit (bolt right up) on a 289?
'Preciate any advice.

Yes they would but you might need to do some drilling for water ports it depaneds on what heads you got?
your basicly putting 302 heads on a 289.
My setup i have 302 block with 289 heads.
and the fit perfectly.

First of all, do a search. This is a common question.

Second, nearly everything will physically interchange between a any 289 and any 302, but there are alot of build specs that dont allow for swapping parts haphazardly. The different balance factors of the rotating asseblies for, example, is why you cannot just switch the dampers or flywheels. The heads will fit as long as you dont have piston interference. It is also possible you'll have to poke a few small water holes either in the block or the heads.

you can actually swap entire rotating assemblies between a 5.0 and a 289. in some cases you may have to some machining on the rear seal area of the crank and of course you would also have to use a 5.0 balancer and flywheel/flexplate but it can be done, about the only thing you absolutely can't interchange from a 5.0 to a 289 is the roller cam and lifters but you can use the 289 cam and lifters in a 5.0, even the intakes will swap.
