4.10 Gear ..how much will I lose?

Hey everyone! I need help. What do you think about the 4.10 gear in a 2004 GT? I've heard I'll lose a lot of top end. Anybody running one? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

u will lose some on the top end, but u will gain alot coming out of the hole. at track today, hit 100 mph in 4th with em, not even red-lined. so u don't lose all that much of your top end. love mine, makes driving the car so much more fun. i'd be more worried about traction.

some people claim to gain top speed because 4.10's put you in a better rpm range above 140mph than the stock 3.27's. but at any rate, the top speed will still be well beyond whatever you will hit in the 1/4mi, unless ofcoarse, you build a 7 second car.

3.73'S IF YOU ARE ON THE INTERSTATE ANY
4.10'S SEEM LIKE THE WAY TO GO FOR MOST PEOPLE.
I THINK IM GOING WITH 3.73'S, THEY ARE MORE REASONABLE FOR WHAT I AM GOING FOR.

I have no idea why anyone would go up to their top speed on the street (I regretted doing 135 at one time...) but I must say that you won't regret going with 4.10

The only draw back of the 3.90's is that they
are made of a softer metal than Ford Racing Gear's and the tend to
wear out quicker but,the best gear's for your stang are the Ford Racing
Gears because they are made of a stronger metal and don't wear out as
fast. I would get 3.73's or less if you drive on the freeway/interstate
alot or are one day going to have a power adder.3.90's or more if you
drive more on the street or are going N/A. With 4.10's fifth gear is very
useable and you can pass someone without down shifting! FRPP 4.10's
are the best in my opnion!

the 3.90 gears made by motive are JUST AS STRONG AS FRPP gears. do a search and you will see motive and frpp jsut the same. mosy guys go with frpp becasue they are made by ford. but i jsut bought a set of motive 4.10 and will be putting them in this weekend.

I agree with everyone here that says N/A = 4.10's and S/C = 3.73. I just got back from about an 1800 mile round trip with my 4.10's and got on average, 23 mpg with a best of about 25 mpg. That was half mountains and half flats. I love the 4.10s in the mountains because you don't have to downshift to 4th on the steep grades.

I have an auto and the gears are great...

Nothing like actually having somewhat a pull in 3rd while in my my lousy 98 GT.

Losing top speed won't hurt you at all.. how many times have you been over 135 in your car?

I go to school and drive mwf about 30 minutes on the interstate, i run late alot and travel about 70 to 80 mphr, so thats why i was thinking about going with 3.73's, but thats really the only reason. 4.10's probably would be really good and the 3.55's are going on all the new models like 05 mustangs and mach 1's, so i was thinking of going in between.

don't fear the gear... go 5.10 if you want, you can always switch 'em back and sell 'em if you get tired of the higher rpms... live a little.

Losing top end is a pile of BS. You will not notice any difference in 100+ mph, except your car will accelerate to what ever speed you want a lot faster. The people that are saying you will lose top end know nothing about cars or physics.
