4.10 Gear ..how much will I lose?

national drivetrain gears are good, but not comon in the mustang world for whatever reason

Richmond or Motive gears are made of a softer metal.They also
don't fit as good as FRPP.Thus your ring and pinion will wear out
quicker.I would only buy FRPP GEARS because they are made for
FORDS in general there for they fit better and will have a longer
life.I had motive 3.90's in my old 91 LX 5.0 for 50K miles and ended
up wearing out and had a slight whine sound to them.They were
installed correctly also.So,right before I sold my 5.0 I replaced them
FRPP 4.10's and they fit great plus also the slight whine was gone.
This was my experience so,to each his own. DON'T FEAR THE GEAR!

6000 rpm in 5th gear
3.27 = 209 mph
4.10 = 167 mph

Those are completely theoretical based on rpm and gearing, and do not mean $hit because they do not factor in hp and aerodynamic drag. The car would never even be able to reach those kinds of speed with out a whole lot of power. A lot more then 99% of the cars on here have. You would really need a long stretch of highway, some huge balls, and no brains to go that fast to see a loss in top end speed. So stop worrying about it.

I would go with 4:10s in a second because after this thread i am convinced thats what my 95 auto needs. But im still stuck on the speedometer being WAAAY off. Plus its going to suck when im trying to re-sell the car and the potential buyer looks down and sees 89 mph when their doing 75 Plus i dont want to speed another $100 on the correction of the speedo after i spend a good $250+ on the gears and installation....

It will be sooo worth it tho

btw....i top out 4th gear at 100mph...

I wouldn't get 4.10's with an Auto, because if you race at the track at all then with 4.10's your 3rd gear would end at alittle over 100 and you don't want to shift into OD at the track. I think 3.73's or 3.90's would be good for an Auto.

4.30s in an auto are = to 4.10s in a 5spd. check yer sources.

I have a 2002 Automatic GT with the stock 3.27's and i raced my friend that has an 03 Automatic with 3.73's and even more mods and i actually started to pull on him at about 80 mph. i think his car is just a turd though! lol but i also know another guy with an 01 auto with 3.73's and did nothing so i think 4.10's are the way to go with autos.

Ok, but when your times start to suck because you have to shift into OD, I hope you have enough money to go back to a 3.90 or 3.73. I'm sure 4.10's are fun on the street, but they just aren't a good gear for 1/4 mile racing.

At what rpms are you considering yourself "topped out"?

I have 4:10s and this might sound crazy but I wish I had bought 4:30s just for fun, I dont go past 120 anyway and staying n/a at the moment. With the 4:10s I redline in third in the 8th mile. The problem with what everyone is saying is that that only trust ford making a gear that fits perfect and you want something that fits perfect when dealing with your rear differental, thats why a bought frpp. I considered 3:90 motives but I wanted more. Also the gas dosent get hurt too bad and who cares about top end, acceleration is whats important in my opinion

Unless you are trapping at over 110-112mph you shouldn't be shifting into overdrive.
