4.6 fit in a 1965 mustang

Not my idea but you know how brother can be. But can a 4.6 mod motor fit between the towers on a 1965 mustang? thanks

no...people cut them out and go with a mustang II front end to swap that engine

Better question to ask is, why would you want to transplant something that's wider than a 460, but has fewer cubic inches than the 289's that came in a 65 Stang ?

Oh, I think that the modular engines(both the 4.6 and the 5.4, the 4v versions anyway) are good engines...but you might as well go with a pushrod unless your getting at least 3 valves out of the deal, otherwise I really dont see much point

its not gonna happen without chopping out the shock towers. You might get away with notching the hell out of them. I will try and get pics of my 66 with a 4.6 so you can see. Without the towers, ou have about 4" on each side of the motor.

Yeah, that thing is bigger than a 460.
You gotta go M2 or similar to get a 460 in.

I have seen the towers on 2 Mavericks (much the same as 65-66 Stang bay) chopped to oblivion to get a 460 in without swapping the suspension...
The coil springs were almost rubbing the valve covers!
Talk about dangerous too, the towers had all 3 sides removed and no room to put metal back in. The tops of the towers were cantilevered over the engine with no support under them.
The plug wires ran between the coils of the springs.

It would be at least that bad with a 4.6... and the 5.4 is even wider.

does anyone know the weight of alll those engines being discussed? id like to see a weight comparison between the 460 big block and the 4.6 mod motor.

I have a 2003 Cobra DOHC (iron block) goint into my 67. I weighed it with all accessories including supercharger, alt, ps pump, ac pump, pulleys and belts, exhaust manifolds and flywheel with clutch/pressure plate. 700lbs. I have an aluminum block for it which will reduce weight by about 70lbs. At 630lbs or so it will be slightly less than a big block.

I weighed a complete 289 with all accessories (no ac, no ps, no exhaust, no clutch/pp but with starter) 485lbs.

The all aluminum 347 in my fastback with the same accessories as the 289 weighed 365lbs.
