454rwhp + slipping drag radials = 12.6 @ 116mph

So I went up to PR yesterday and got a few runs in.. I was slightly disappointed at my times, but I guess they are a huge improvement from my 13.7 with a mostly stock car a couple years ago. I know I suck at driving, I guess I need to practice launching better since the lowest 60' time I pulled was 2.070 I've got 315 Nitto DR's and control arms in back to help it hook but I just cant get it to. I don't do a burnout, just spin them a little to knock some of the rocks off, should I be doing more of a burnout?

11's shouldn't be hard at all with that kind of MPH, on a real tire. The Nittos are pretty much Junk IMO, barely any better than a regular street radial. borrow some M/T's or better yet a pair of slicks from someone and your 11 should be in the bag.

Don't worry at all about power until you get the 60's down in the 1.7-1.8 range or better.

Practice, practice, practice. Given that your 60' and trap speed isn't far off what I saw with my '03 Cobra when I took it down to PIR ... I suspect you're also giving up a fair amount of time in other ways than just the launch. Granny shifting?

You have two excellent recommendations...

Your 60' times suck and the tires can make a huge difference... Also, what have you done to make sure that you are getting good weight transfer, so that your tires grab on the launch... With your setup, a 1.7 should be doable which will bring down your time to 12.3...

You have great 1/8 mph and trap speed, thus I think that Rootus might be on to something with the shifts... If you are not hitting them hard, you could easily be loosing several 1/10th's on your shifts...

Looks like you have all the go-fast parts that you need, now it is just a matter of tuning them to make the fat meats stick, and keeping the momentum going forward...

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys.. As far as weight transfer I take it you mean in the suspension. I've got 350lb coilovers with bilsteins in the front and steeda springs w/ bilsteins in the rear. I've kinda got it set up more for the twisties as far as suspension goes.

As for tires I am tempted to get some slicks, but my theory is that I want to be able to perform the same on the street as I do on the track (not that I street race) so some MT E/T's may be in the future since this car only sees like 2-4 thousand miles per year on the road anyway.

And yes I do need PRACTICE! I suspect that I'm granny shifting (thats as opposed to powershifting right?).. I do throw the gears as fast as my foot can hit the clutch and shift. Just dont want to hurt this Viper T-56 I suppose thats why they build em strong right?

I would suggest like the rest, tires and practice your shifts. I doubt you'll hurt that tranny so dont sweat it. I have the 3550 with 300 H.P and launch at 5000 or so on slicks giving me a 1.7 60' time and ummm cough cough a best for me 13 flat at 106. I need to practice BIG time on my shifts i about a sec off the previous owners times in the same car. peace

I would suggest alot more burnout. like 5 to 10 secends with your DR. Things will hook 10 times better.

You have real power and you need proper tires, as stated above. You have enough power for 11's, but I don't think you will get in that range with those tires. Your best hope is to run with the racing cars in lanes 5 and 6 after the handlers put down some VHT. I bet you are racing with the street cars...

Just so you know right now the prepwork at PR is terrible and the tech inspections are a joke! I wouldnt be suprised if somebody died there this year! Im serisouly thinking about driving 3X as far to Bremerton just for my safety. A couple weeks back I was there had my tech card under my wiper filled out and all ran to take a piss and came back to find that I had been signed off on my card. I look at my car and realize I somehow lost my power steering cap and fluid had blown on the motor and engine bay while driving to the track and also part of my battery hold down had pulled through the box and hold down bracket was dangling. Obviously they werent to concerned.

I dont know that its allways liek that maybe I just go on the bad days. Its also porlly a little better now that they ran the season opener. I imagine it got a good dose of VHT that day.
