I have just started driving with a T50D 5spd mannual, cable clutch. The gears change fine except when I'm stationary and try to put it in first. It just dosent want to slide in and I have to wriggle and push harder than I beleive it should need.

Changed to Redline oil with marginal effect, maybe it's a tiny bit better.

Is this a common problem with these boxes? Is there a fix?

Really appreciate any advice.

Tks Marshall

Yep.... it's very common. What you need to do if it doesn't want ot go into gear is put it back in neutral... let off the clutch, then press it again... it should go in fine then. Last thing you want to do is PUSH on the shifter to get it into gear. Only thing you will accomplish is bending or breaking the brittle cast aluminum shift fork. Hope this helps.

Marshall, are you running D4? Thicker oil could cause an issue (it seems to me that you Aussies are a bit fond of the thick stuff - e.g. I used to think 20W-50 motor oil was thick till I saw what you guys have available. ).

Anyhow, good luck with it and bump for ya.

Yeah - Major oil companies sell 80W - 90 for gearbox oil here, its a bit like mayple syrup!

I put Redline trans fluid in (nearly $100 for 3 litres) boy, I'm keeping the US economy going all by myself.

Redline Seems to have fixed the problem but only after about 50 miles driving, dont know why that is so. I'm told that these boxes are tight to go in first even when new so I'll just have to get used to it.

Man, those prices are outrageous (the exchange rate was not that bad when I was in Sydney, many, many years ago. ).

I thought you guys had motor oil with weights like 30W-80 or something similar to that (I see Aussies post numbers like that on the oil forums).

Good lookin motor/trans.
