66 Traction bar HELP

With my new 8.8 with 3.73 posi and t5, my failed attempt to put 400 hp to the ground results in a failure. When launching, the car wheel hops like crazy. even doing a rolling start from 10 mph (3.35 first gear) the axle hops like crazy. The car also squats on launch as well. I do not have optimum traction this way. I have stock replacement shocks and leaves. I was looking at a set of caltracs or slide-a-links to help alleviate this hop condition and squatting condition. any thoughts on a good improvement? I want to leave 60 ft times below 2 seconds if possible.

I had the same problem in my 66. Put a 8.8 in because it was cheap and no 9" around here was reasonable. Got the perches welded on and put it in. HOP HOP HOP. I broke my tranny mount in half because of the wheelhop.

I got underider bars and spring clamps. (Search e-bay or look for a local shop that does leaf springs)
New polyurethane transmission mount and the above and I can't get traction in 1st,2nd and part of 3rd.

Lakewood traction bars are a good investment.

i have a 66 fastback with a 331 stroker, about 380 horse. a 9 inch rear, heay 67 rear shelby spings, no tracktion bars. not one problem.

Wheel hop could also be coming from the whole driveline flexing. Do you have PU motor mounts? I fixed my hop with motor mounts, 5 leaf springs and Slide-A-Links. No idea what helped the most as I put it all on at the same time.

I can't say enough about Caltracs.

Over 100 runs at the track now (on slicks) plus street duty. NEVER had a single issue of wheel hop and I'm pushing 450+ through a 4 speed. I've used both a stock spring and 5 leafs (rough rider) and finally settled for Mono-leafs which seem on the soft side and so I tune them with adjustable shocks. Last week's runs were all in the 1.7 second range since I was breaking in a new clutch, I can run in the mid 1.6's too when I get the launch RPM right. My best run last Friday was a 11.54@121.63 with a bogging too low 4100rpm launch.

I believe that Slide-a-links will work good too (especially a primarily street car,) but you will loose some of the adjustability that is needed at the track.

i might do either slide a links or caltracs. The rear squats too and I want to stop it. Also, I will put in new poly bushings in the springs to make sure the stock rubber stuff isn't at fault

I really like my Caltracs. That solid front bushing really transmits the noise of the rear though, dont really care for that so much. Quite a difference, but the end result is totally worth it IMO. If I was to have a daily driver though, I dont think I could live with the noise. If running a street car, Id do the caltracs and shocks and go with your springs if they are good. Not sure how much the monoleaf helps, but I doubt it would really hurt all that much staying with some 4 or 5 leafs.

That being said, the gears I have are awefully noisy anyways, so its making it worse with those solid front bushings.

My lakewood slapper bars did serve the purpose for 20 yrs just fine. No they dont perform like the Caltracs, but you would have no prob getting into the 1.7's with a set either.
