Progress Thread 67coupe’s 89 LX - Dyno Vid

Long time ago when a relative built a spray booth he made the duct that curved down so the air blew onto a big water trough of water then up through a filter that was horizontal then out the side if the building, used a squirrel cage fan that sucked through duel filtered inlets in the wall. Kinda intricate but worked really well, you would not believe the over spray that water caught. This was before HVLP guns too.

Front bumper and headlights are in. Washed the rims inside and out too.

The weather wouldn’t allow installing the cobra kit. The adhesion promoter instructions said temps need to be above 70. The high was 55 yesterday.

In the end that didn’t really matter. The bumper and headlights took a lot of time to fit them right.

So nice to see the front end back together! Can’t wait to see the rest of it on the car. Hopefully, that’ll happen tomorrow and I’ll get to take it for the first drive.

Oh, and for those of you wondering, I will be replacing the wheels. I might ask for opinions in the future.

Fantastic job! As for the wheels, I personally love the 98 Cobra's and think they look excellent on your car, so choose wisely as those will be hard to beat!

They’re great wheels. Definitely hard to find beat for LX trim. I just feel like they don’t work well in GT/Cobra trim. Also, I want darker wheels to play off this new paint color. I have some options in mind, but that’s three to four weeks from now.

Yeah @67coupe, those bumpers take a while to fit. They arent a bolt on a go. It took me a good half day to fir mine last year. I like those wheels, I wouldn't mind finding a set of those.
 
Everything is now installed but the door moldings. And I finally took it out for a spin Tuesday evening and yesterday.

No funny smells or noises. Engine ran great, transmission shifted well and I have a quiet input shaft again. Total success.

Did a little cleaning and took some pictures in good light.

So besides the door moldings (which will take a while cause I have to sand all the primer off and start over), just need to finish breaking in the clutch. Only 481 miles left! LOL. Then dyno time.

Not much to update. Putting more miles on the clutch. Now at 180, 320 to go.

The car is running great. I do think my AEM wideband is acting up. The readings swing wildly and really don’t make sense based on how it’s running. A quick google search revealed a lot of problems with those sensors (Bosch 4.9 LSU). Consensus is thermal shock (moisture) and rich AFRs will kill them pretty quick. Not really going to worry about it till I’m closer to dyno time.

I did go to a friends house and media blast the door moldings. I’m back down to bare rubber and can start over with adhesion promoter and fresh coats of high build.

I finally broke down and ordered the headlights! I kept seeing them on yours, and @TOOLOW91, and I had to pull the trigger! I rarely drive at night with it, so I really don’t care about how they project the light. They’ll probably be better than my yellow, spider cracked ones that are on there.

Dont go blaming the sensor now, you should replace the aem with a reliable unit. Although the x series stuff is the most reliable aem produces that I have found. I personally prefer the spartan2 or spartan2 adv

I was hoping you’d reply. I know these sensors are used reliably in many OEM applications. But seem to fail quickly and repeatably in aftermarket applications. It’s all over the Holley Sniper and AEM forums. In fact, a friend with the Holley is already on his third sensor.

You’ve confirm what I’ve been thinking. Some aftermarket applications power the sensor in a manner that exposes it to thermal shock and or moisture in the exhaust? This would be the only explanation that makes sense.

Before I consider a new setup, I was thinking about a few options. Would a delay relay help? I could delay powering the sensor after key on. Also, this adaptor seems to help the users on the Holley forum. It’s like a sample tube for the sensor.

Good deal! I love the way they look. Haven’t finished aligning them and haven’t driven at night, so I can’t comment on that yet. I’ll try to get that done soon and let you know.
