Hey guys I'm hoping you can help me out here.

I have an '85 302 roller motor that I'm rebuilding so I can install in my '87 Mazda RX-7. I'm having a problem with the timing chain set. I need to know whether or not it's an HO or not. Thing is, I have no clue if it is or not. I assumed it was an HO if it's a roller and came out of an '85 mustang. I also don't have the original timing gears/chain unfortunately so I can't match part numbers. Here's what I do know. It's a 1985 roller block out of a mustang, with casting number E5AE. Can any of you help me out? Thanks! I need to get this beast one the ROAD!!!

i've used both kinds, on differing years, if you are going carbed, you'll need to specify that when you buy the part, unless you plan on running an electric fuel pump...last time i remember using one, they were slightly thinner to allow more clearance for the fuel pump eccentric...once again, this is dependant on your fuel system setup. but as long as it's for a 302, you should be ok

Thanks... Is it possible to go electric fuel pump w/ carb? That that just hit me... I definately want to go carb on the motor.. should I just get a diff chain cover so I can do a mech pump? As of right now I was thinking about wiring up the intake fuel pump and then using a pressure regulator... good/bad idea?

If the motor is a roller motor its a HO. If it came out of a 85 5 speed its a roller and if it came out of a 85 auto its a non roller.

Yes, you can go with a electric pump. Just block off the mechanical pump hole in the timing cover.

Also, in case you weren't aware, be sure that if/when you go to an electric fuel pump that you buy one designed to work w/a carburetor. Typically, pumps that deliver more than 7 psi at the carb will exceed the needle and seat capacity on most Holleys. A regulator can also be used in conjunction with the pump to help dial in the pressure you need.
