87 lx 50 dipstick

somebody please tell me im not crazy the dipstick on my notch does attach to the oil pan and not the block?

well my block is out of a 87 and my dipstick goes into the block

I'm pretty sure they all go into the block on later model (definitely 87+) engines. Check your other post, someone gave you instructions on re-installing your tube.

goes in the block.....be careful removing the old one I just did one on a 98 ford truck and the lower part where it goes into the block broke off and went in the oil pan....I was about to take the pan off and go that way but I thought I would drain the oil and use my small extending magnet and fish it out....10 min doing that was alot better than droping the oil pan lol.

they all go in the block on the 302

79 302 Mustangs and Capris have a dipstick that goes into the oil pan. It is one of the few or only 302 or 5.0 pans to have a pan mounted dipstick.

Yes, I tried an early block (68) with a later pan, and yes, it is impossible to check the oil.....

I'm pretty sure that on my 289, the dipstick goes into the timing cover. I could just be drunk though...
