3M makes a spray can of glue that is for rubber or vinyl I have used it before and I sprayrd the two pieces and let sit for 5-8 minutes and put the one side on and clamp it and pull tite and work your way to the other side.

IMO, the best way to replace the carpet with vinyl would be to cut your vinyl pieces several inches larger than the doors and have the top edges folded over and sewn like the carpet trim was. This will give you a nice clean top edge. Then use the 3M spray adhesive to attach the vinyl to the bottom of the door panels, and wrap the bottom and back edges around to the door side of the panel. Carefully tuck the edge by the speaker under the speaker grill piece. That way you can achieve a pretty stock looking install. You could try and staple the overlap part at the top (from behind the part you had sewn, so it is not visible) before using the spray glue to help hold it in place.

I went the other way and added carpet to the 92 panels I put in my car since the map pockets were trash and I liked the carpet on my old 87 panels. But I used a piece of chrome trim I screwed to the door panel for the top and butted the carpet against it, while wrapping the bottom and back edge around to the back side of the panel.
