Hey guys,
I'm rebuilding the 2.3 in my '91 LX I'm the second owner of the car and it's always been in our family. The only reason its changing hands is because the oil pump pickup got clogged and it spun #2 rod bearing. My first plan was to have the crank cleaned up and just re-bearing it and put it back on the road. After disassembly I found #2 rod was beat pretty badly. The radius on the side is hammered. So now I have to pull the head to get the piston and rod out. May as well rebuild the motor at this point, so that's what I'm doing.
I'm looking at maybe changing the camshaft to something a little bigger, but nothing radical. I want to stay with the hydraulic roller configuration. This is going to be my gas mileage car. My current daily driver is a 5.9L powered Dodge Ram, and if I want to go fast, I've got my boat, so nothing crazy, and no hairdryer swaps.
