Progress Thread 95 2-Top Cobra Build Thread- Never ending

Power pipe hole gave me some trouble, waiting on some new cut off wheels to finish it off tomorrow. Got the vortech water pump pulley and crank pulley mounted, still needs to be torqued once belt is on. Mounted the methanol pump underneath the washer reservoir and ran the lines through the engine bay. Going to fill it with some water to prime the system to make sure nothing leaks. Rainy day forecasted for tomorrow so not expecting any progress to be made.

Knew it would be a stormy day here so last night I pulled out the PCM and rear seats so I can start working inside. My rear seats were dry and cracked from years of convertible top exposure and looked awful with the top down. Scored a good deal on some TMI rear vinyl on FB marketplace. Based on LMRs vid I figured it would be Velcro and hog rings holding it on… the upholstery was glued. Did my best to save as much foam as possible. Mocked up the new covers and ordered some spray adhesive which should arrive Sunday

Opened up the computer and installed the Moates Quarterhorse tuned by Willie Lynch at Dirty Dirty Racing. On a base file with no provisions for meth so will get some datalogs and wideband readings to get the tune perfected as we go. Working in Fusion 360 right now to create a cover for the QH similar to the stock plug that covered the J3 port. Will use a dab of clear silicone to keep it in place and seal up the electronics.

Todays progress:
-Installed camber bolts
- Installed supercharger bracket and hooked up smog pump
- Reinstalled PCM
- Finished wiring up the meth pump (will be relocating above the fog lights because current position blocks the fender liner)
- Tapped wideband into EGR
-Mocked power pipe and blower

The goal for tomorrow is to open up the power pipe hole a little more to allow space for the pipe to be clocked correctly. and get the blower and discharge tube mounted. I would like to start the car for the first time tomorrow.

Finished up the install! There are a few things holding me back from starting the car though.
1) P.O. overtightned and stripped the full plug/dipstick on blower. New one is on order but still need to remove this one somehow to fill the unit with oil
2) Was sent the wrong MAF adapter harness so will most likely just make my own
3) Need to experiment with some belt sizes as I’m running a 7.25 crank pulley rather than the stock Vortech 6.87. Ordered a bunch from autozone which will be here tomorrow

Final product! I am beyond excited with the outcome and am excited to get the car started. Hooked up power to the car and verified meth system works and sprays. Waiting on the above to be fixed and then the first start will happen and get some tune revisions made.

Willie Lynch is a cool guy man. Dealt with him many times back in the days. Glad to see Dirty Dirty Racing is still going strong with Moates QH.

Good work man. I know you can't wait to drive that thing :burnout:

If you ever decide you need or want it I have a nice metal Bosch valve as a substitute to the black Bosch plastic valve id let go cheap .

Yeah unfortunately the Moates QH will be no longer. It made me wonder if Megasquirt was the way to go instead but I don’t plan on changing the setup much so once I’m dialed in, should be all good.

Thank you! Will definitely have to consider that, I hear mixed reviews about how these stock ones hold up. I should be right around 10lbs of boost

The anticipation is killing me! Belts and MAF should be sorted today. The new fill plug might be a few days

So close to the finish line! Wired up my own MAF adapter harness and got the rest of the power pipe setup and clamped down. Hammered in a T40 bit to remove the stripped fill plug and filled up with 4oz of Vortech oil. Reinstalled the fender liner and wheels. All I need now is a belt to start it! Autozone next day delivery somehow turned into a few days so will have to wait

Today marked the first start! Got my belts in from Autozone and was able to get the car started. For reference since there was no info, a 7.25 crank pulley and 3.33 Blower pulley on a 94-95 needs a 105.5 accessory belt. The 60” blower belt still had too much slack but was just good enough to start. Going to try a 58.5 next. Wish I could upload a video here but the car started right up and idled perfectly. Have to make some clearance for the upper rad hose before first drive

While it rained outside, I finished the back seat tops. Used a little spray adhesive to keep everything nice and smooth. I think it came out excellent and has a very good hold between the glue and the hog rings. Will tackle the bottoms soon

That seat came out great! For the belt you can take a piece of string and tape it to a pulley then route it how it should go and get it tight, then mark it and measure how long it needs to be.
