Good day...coming back to the forum after having been gone for years.

Have a question...what is the 5 speed transmission in a 1995 GT denoted as?

I am looking to purchase a 5 speed for my V-8 TBird, and it is a 1988. I know that a Fox chassis T-5 will work, however not sure if dimensions for the 1995 model are different.

Thanks

I purchased a 5 speed tranny for my 5 speed conversion in my 1988 fox body. It came out of a 1995 mustang. Heres the problem the 95 tranny input shaft is 3/4 of inch longer than a fox tranny and the shifter sits further back. Hope this helps.

I understang the added length to the housing/location of the shifter, however, this transmission fits a 5.0 out of a '95, so input shaft length should not be a problem. I will of course have to check dimensions for the factory cut hole in the tranny tunnel. Hopefully, the dimensions line up.

Remember that if you use a SN95 trans, you also need the bell housing, and the driveshaft may be too long.

The diameter of the input shaft is a little larger than a fox body. The pilot bearing is also larger on the 95 5.0. I tried to get it in my car no luck and it would not go onto the dowel pins from engine block. As mentioned you will need a sn95 bell housing. If you get it to work let me know and how.

I have a 95 T5 with 95 bell housing (5.0) and when you use both of them from a 94-95 the shifter will sit in the factory location. I have a 88 Turbo coupe and also used the factory drive shaft. My Turbo coupe was originally a five speed car. As for the pilot bearing get one for a 94-95 mustang GT. Hope this helps. Check us out at Fox T-Bird/Cougar Forums - Powered by vBulletin
