Hey all,
New to the forum, but long time follower. I have a 96 V6 auto, and right now we aren't getting along. This morning I got in my car to go to work, and went to the gas station to get a drink. Got to work, and pulled up right by my office to drop some things off. When I went back out 2 minutes later to park it, she won't start. The battery seems ok, headlights, radio, everything, even the fan works. It cranks, but slow. It acts like the battery is almost dead, but it started twice today already. It isn't the theft system since the light isn't on. The terminals have good connection, as I just cleaned them. Any ideas? This happened last week when I had left my hazards on for 5 minutes, got a jump and it was fine. I can get it jumped for now, but it seems like there is something causing the battery to drain. I don't mind getting a new battery, but money is tight, and I want to figure it out before I do that. Let me know what you think.
BTW, the car has around 270,000 miles on it, and has been in my family since it was new, and it was taken excellent care of. It has a few other issues, but none of them pressing. For those that are curious, the tranny is slowly dying. It grinds and hesitates to switch gears. I had radiator fan issues a month ago. The fan wouldn't turn off after the car was shut off and drained the battery. It seems to have fixed itself though. So this battery has been drained and charged a few times since I got it, which makes me think that might be the issue. But it acts like it isn't getting charged when the engine is running. Help.
