I have a 98 cobra with 45k miles and i hear noises when truning my steering wheel and when going into driveways, not sure if it is suspension. Any ideas? Thanks, Ron
It's a clacking noise that sounds like something rattling back and forth? I'm having the same problem. A friend and I think it could possibly be something with the clutch (like the TOB) or with the front suspension. Like you, it happens when I pull into driveways sometimes. It would be nice to find out what it is.
jack up the front of the car and start tugging on suspension components. Grab each tire at the 3 and 9 o'clock position and wobble, then do the same at the 12 and 6 o'clock position. If the 9-3 position moves/rattles it is likely a tie-rod end, if the 12-6 moves/rattles it is likely a ball joint. Try grabbing the inner tie rods and moving them back and forth to isolate the noise.
Also check your brake calipers. If the caliper to pad clips are missing the pads can rattle against the caliper and it will do so over bumpy roads and go away when the brakes are depressed.
