I currently have an 03 Silver GT 5speed with 10,000 on it. I am very seriously considering trading in my GT for a 96-98 Cobra or Saleen. I have seen several just on Autotrader.com for anywhere from $10,000-18,000. There was cobras with anything from a full load from the factory to a fully built and blown with 500rwhp.... What do you guys think, any major downsides to the 96-98 cobras? Think its worth the fact that i paid 24,000 a year ago for it with 0 miles and now it has just over 10,000 and i will probly only be able to get what 19,000 at most... Just looking for some opinions, dont want to waste too much money. Also would you guys be hesitant to buy a car with a blower on it already or with any major work done? Or would that be a smarter idea since they could never get the full value back on one.. Thanks for any advice in advance.

P.S. Im only 19..

If the Cobra is stock you won't be gaining anything really. And buying a modded car is not a good decision. They didn't mod it to drive slow.

Well, I personally wouldnt go back to a 96-98. If you absolutely want to trade your GT, I would look at doing a 99 Cobra.

But it's basically your decision, it seems sort of strange to me to sell a pretty new car and go back to a older model year that really won't be much faster. I would say, mod your current GT and save the $$, plus it's also nice to have a car that only you have owned.

Edit: After looking at your sig, no way. With your mods your call should be just as fast as a older Cobra, and you already have a real nice stereo. Plus I think the 99+ cars look better (haters go away, its just my opinion).

keep your gt....i was faced with same decision a year ago....I found a 98 cobra with 14k miles on it for 21k$ and i found my 03gt for 19k$ with 0 miles on it. I decided to test both cars and to me the gt honestly felt faster! and with the mods i have now i know i would rape a stock or slightly modified 96-98cobra! My buddy has a 96 cobra with 4.10s, o/r h pipe, new t45 tranny, flows, B&M shifter and i beat him at the track.

I was faced with the same decision, and swapped my 99 GT for a 98 Cobra. Glad I did, but its all personal preference. The money was about the same, the Cobra was a better car to start from, and the exclusivity had some value for me.

Either way you will have a solid car.

BTW- Modular2V, I hope the 13.9 you ran was prior to your mods. 13.9 isn't going to rape any 96-98 Cobras. 13.9 will barely get you a flash of cleavage.

I wouldn't trade my '96 Cobra for a new GT. But if I had a new GT, I wouldn't trade it for an older Cobra. Just about very time you trade in a car, you take a bath on it. Plus when you buy used, you risk surprises.

Anything with mustang with a DOHC you will be happy with!!!! I would be more happy with a 94-98 body style.

If I had the dough I'd get a 4v dropped in my gt....but I has no money at the moment that's not happenin'

I've raced a few 96-98 cobra were even steven.
If i had a choice between the two I would get the cobra.
Couple of things I like about them is 4v then add a poweradder "holy crap". And they have a live axle for me to beef up and drag race.

And are more exclusive limited numbers .....

i would'nt do it man. Do you not like your car? Its all a matter of opinion but i would keep what you have. your going to take a bath besides the newer body style is much better looking. 19 and you want to dump your sweet car that only has 10000 miles on it? does'nt make much sense to me.

My brother has a 98 cobra with a Vortech supercharger and it eats my 03 gt alive... In fact its for sale! White, chrome cobra R wheels, Vortech V1 s/c, H-pipe, flowmasters. I believe he wants somewhere in the neighborhood of 11-12k for it.

I would rather have my 03 gt than a stock 98 cobra, but thats a hard question when it has a s/c on it.

PM sent.. I have decided the only way i will do it is after a very thorough inspection and if the cobra already has a supercharger on it. I realize that a stock trade would be pointless and i know i will be losing money, but in the long run the depreciation of the cobra will outlast the 03 gt by far...so seems like it will be a wise investment in the long run and also i will basicly be getting a blown 4v motor and have money to play with after the sale.. seems stupid in some ways but also very smart in others, hard choice but im gonna do it! Wish me luck!
