why does the post say 99-00 head swap? Why didn't you just say 99 headswap if you have a 99, or 2000 head swap if you have an 00. Maybe you meant to imply Windsor heads? I dunno im thinking out loud.

And anyway, like SPEEDFREAK98R says...get aftermarket heads. Stage II ported, 5 angle valve job, the works No point in getting OEM heads anymore they practically cost the same as worked aftermarket ones do

I said 99-2000 because those years are the same engine wise so I didn't know if something changed in 2001 and up. And I'm going with stock heads because I'm trying to sell the car and on a tight budget.

Swapping the head is fairly involved but if you're mechanically inclined you should be OK. I'd suggest picking up a shop manual though. What exactly do you mean when you say "the head is messed up" ?

I blew a spark plugs out of the head, completely ripping the threads out of the head. I thought I could just heli-coil the head but that did not work, and I ended up taking it to a mustang specialist that told me it was no repairable.

Thanks for the help Canadastang, the head already had an insert put in it and it still misfires. I think something is hitting the spark plug from the bottom which could only be the piston. Maybe there is some carbon buildup on it or something, I'm no expert.

I wouldn't think the piston would be hitting on the plug, is the ground electrode on the tip of the plug pounded flat?
Check the COP [coil-on-plug] as it may have been damaged when the plug blew out. You can switch it with one of the others to see if the miss follows the COP.

the electode was smashed into the plug. Also I did switch the COP's to check them and they were fine.

I guess you could always slip a few extra washers [from old plugs] on the spark plug before you install it in the head and hope for the best

It's a fair bit of work changing out the head so even if you could get the heli-coil out [or whatever is in there] and use the Timesert, it would be worth the effort, but even getting the old one out could be tough b/c of the recessed plug hole. Good luck, hope you let us know how you make out.
