Today I overheard several guys talking about how Ford put some 99GT heads on late built 98GT's. They were talking about how Ford redesigned the 99+ heads and that they started putting some on late 98 built cars. I have a late built 98GT and was just curious if any of you guys have heard this.

99 heads are windsors, they wont fit on a 98 GT w/out some small modifications. Plus they have a different number of bolts in the valve cover. Youd be able to tell just by counting them

That is not true, the all "new edge" mustangs have PI heads. Thats 99-04.

99-01.5 used a windsor motor with pressed on cam gears and 01.5-04 used a romeo motor with bolt on cam gears. BOTH motors are PI...

NPI are in 96-98 SN95's.

Wrong, all 99-04 heads, cams, and intakes are PI, or performance improved heads. Thats why the horsepower rating went from 225(98 only) to 260. What your talking about doing is called a PI swap. There is a ton of info about this on these forums, just use the search function.

they were not put on at the factory on 98s. my 98 was one of the very late builds and it had NPI heads. also in the parts lookup at work, all the options on 98's are for NPI heads.

I also have a late built 1998 GT. Still had to pay for the headswap. It would have been real nice if Ford made that mistake instead of making the mistake of putting in an intake manifold that will burst.

Then, later after it bursts they replace it with one they know will burst again like they did with my car
