I had an interesting dyno experience this past Saturday, 4/30. I was able to take my new 2011 Mustang GT up to Big Shot Performance in Tallmadge, OH, to help test the ACES products from BND Automotive. I have been a customer of BND for a couple of years now, I use their ACES IV fuel catalyst in my other cars, and even my gas-powered lawn equipment. I have not used any of their products in my new Mustang, as the engine was still in the break-in process. It now has over 1800 miles on it, so this was a good time to use it for this test. The entire test was filmed by BTTO Production, and there are many other vehicles being used for these tests, so it will be interesting to see the results from different vehicles. These tests will be aired starting in June on various cable TV networks, I’ll post the times when I know them.

We are testing the ACES 3 oil formula and the ACES IV fuel catalyst on a dyno, to determine the actual improvements seen on the cars performance. My car has the 6-speed automatic transmission, so the runs were done in 3rd gear. The car was tested on the dyno to determine it’s baseline, and had a best pull of 366.1 hp and 352.4 lb-ft of torque on that run. Then the ACES 3 was added to the engine, and the ACES IV was added to the fuel, each with the proper mixture. The car was then run for about 10 minutes on the dyno at normal speeds to circulate, then turned off and allowed to cool. After it had cooled off for about 15 minutes (with the hood open and the blower fan running in front the car), it was started up and did 3 more dyno pulls, then turned off and allowed to cool again. Then it was restarted and did 3 more dyno pulls to get the results. Some interesting observations from the last pulls- the engine had a noticeably smoother sound to it (hard to describe, but less “tinny” and more smooth) and you could actually smell the extra carbon being cleaned out of the engine by the smell of the exhaust! The best pull out of the last 3 showed 370.8 hp, and 356.5 lb-ft of torque.

So, for simply adding these two formulas to my car, I gained 4.7 hp and 4.1 lb-ft. of torque. One of the other cars there gained 14 hp! I also noticed an improvement in my fuel mileage. Using the readout for AVG MPG in my car, which has been pretty accurate for me, I had an average of 24.4 mpg on the way there in the morning (at 50 deg. F), and had 25.5 mpg on the way home (at 70 deg. F). Both trips were made with the cruise control set at 72 mph, as shown on my GPS, on the same stretch of I-70 between I-670 and I-270.

While these are small improvements in my case, all the testing was done on film and had consistent results, so these are definite improvements! I noticed in my older car, that the cleaning and lubricating properties of the ACES IV continued to improve the running of that car through about 2 tank-fulls, then leveled off at that point. It will be interesting to see if the Mustang MPG also improves more over time.

I enjoyed having the opportunity to test these products and get measurable, verifiable results from them!

What octane gas? Any ethanol content? Does the fuel additive raise the octane rating of the gas?

Sounds like impressive stuff!

Whoops! Forgot some details there, thanks for reminding me!

This was done with 89 oct. gas with NO ethanol.

Well, I don't want to open the whole "octane" debate here, but the ACES IV lets your engine get better burn/more power out of the gas, so it runs like a "higher octane" gas. I can copy in the description of the whole effect, if you like. In my last car, I could run a "canned" 93-octane Tune with 89 oct. gas + ACES IV. It was datalogged and confirmed safe. It was a V6, AWD Charger, so I didn't do much drag racing with it, so I don't have any before/after timeslips for you. Sorry.

The Burn Test.

An interesting property of the ACES IV fuel catalyst- when it burns, it produces a lubricating material! They filmed a great demonstration called, plainly enough, "the burn test". They had 3 different, popular fuel additives, and the ACES. The labels were covered, but you'd recognize the bottle if you saw it. They take an empty soda can and flip it over, then pour some of the additive into the "cup" in the bottom, then light it with a lighter. Or try to... the "green cap" product (VERY popular, starts with an "L") would NOT light! It doesn't even burn, and you're supposed to put it in your GAS?! The others all lit and burned nicely, but 2 of them had a soft orange flame, while the ACES had a bright yellow flame (hotter). The "red cap" additive (3 letters, starts with an "S") burned nicely, but let off a lot of nasty, black soot in the process.

The ACES does not feel "oily" when it's fresh out of the bottle, but when it burns, the residue in the can feels very slippery! It was also the only product of the 4 that dissolved the ink off of the can.

Sounds like good stuff. I didn't want to start any debates on octane... just was wondering what flavor of gas you used for testing.
