to take rust off, use a rotary tool with some steel wool to remove tha rust... my friend used that on his rear drums of his civic then he painted a few coats of black heat paint and they look great

A wire wheel on a 4.5" or 5" grinder works amazing and fast. I did almost my whole car this way.....even the body. Wear glasses or even better a face shield and you will get dirty. Wire attachments for drills work well too, but not near as fast as the grinder method. If you attempt this wear gloves and pay attention to the direction of the debris....point it away. I had mega steel splinters on my hands and arms......looked like a junkie. This has to be the best, short of bead blasting. It will go right to bare steel and fast.
