alternator question

IS the alternator below a direct replacement for mine on a 2002 gt ?

looking for something with more output my stereo practically turns the lights off when it hits.

It says it's a Bullitt alt which was different (due to different intake manifold) than garden variety GTs.

A couple of farads of stiffening caps would probably help more than an alternator. Bass hits are quick transients that the regulator in the alternator would probably not respond to well anyway. You need energy storage right at the amplifier itself to supply those transient loads. Caps will give that.

so your thinking if i throw a farad cap in there, it would be sufficient. was is the output of my stock alternator?

It will help with transients like bass hits if placed physically near the bass amp(s) and if wired to the battery via a thick gauge wire. The general idea is that the capacitor(s) provide a near-zero ohm impedance that the amps can draw from during a bass hit and after it passes, the charging system can recharge the cap in time for the next hit.

120A or 130A I believe.

thanks, i have 4 gauge and have used caps in the past but didnt see much differance. I guess i will try it again, these days you can get a 1.6 farad cap for 40 bux on ebay, used to pay way over a 100 for this
