Aluminum drive shaft & 4:10's

I originally had my 4:10's installed January 2005. They wined so bad I bought another set of gears an had them installed at a different place in March 2005. After doing it 3 times and replacing most of the bearings in the rear end on a car with less than 12,000 miles on it, the guy working on it got the wine out of it. After about a month it started to wine a little between 65 and 70 only. This didn't bother me to much. The guy that did my gears the second time was highly recommened and I am pretty sure he installed them right. When I went back to change my fluid after the break in period he said everthing looked good. After having my transmission TSB done in September, I started to notice the vibration that some of you talk about. I think the Ford place did not put my drive shaft in the way it came out. Is it worth it to get the aluminum drive shaft to stop the vibration and will a drive shaft help with the wine. I have read were some people claims it helps with hormonics caused by the bigger gear. What do you think?

It took away all the vibration I had from my gear swap. Not sure about the whine.

Umm ok why not jack the car up and rotate the driveshaft and see if that takes care of the vibration? Lot cheaper than a driveshaft. Also while your under there check and see if the dogbone is still on the rearend housing, if so try taking that off and see if it helps hurts or no difference.
The AL driveshaft may help with the vibration issue but gear whine is not right, either there is something wrong or maybe your a tad more intune to your car than most.

Usually they will mark the DS to replace it the way it came out. But you could also have a bad u joint. Describe the vibration a little more and when does it happen.

I have 4:10's and the FRPP ALDS and no gear noise what so ever.

I have 4.10, and I notice a slight wine... well come to think of it, I don't notice the whine anymore. Either it went away, or I just don't "hear" it anymore. If I remember right, I usually would hear it around 55-65, somewhere in that range. It was VERY slight though. The guy that did the install for me did a good job.

If you have a slight wine, I wouldn't worry about it. I've had my gears in there for around 30k miles, and the wine never got any worse. Like I said, it either stayed the same or went away, because I haven't even noticed it recently.

The wobble, I think I have a little of that every now and then. Not much though, I barely notice it. Every now and then I'll feel it, but like I said, nothing major. I've thought about getting an aluminum driveshaft, but because I have an Auto, it would be a little harder to find one. Plus, they are lighter, and weight reduction is always good.

Just thought I'd give you a little insight since I've had 4.10 for a while.

theyre like 6 pounds lighter....just remember to take a dump before u go to the track

The gear whine is caused by an incorrect backlash setting.
The installer might not have used a micrometer.

Thanks for the info and comments. I did consider rotating the drive shaft to see if it gets better, but it seems like I have read were alot of people with 4:10's get the aluminum drive shaft or rebalance there stock drive shaft.

usually is the key word here. I have seen many driveshafts go back in without being indexed. This is why you guys are having this problem AFTER service that requires the driveshaft to come out.

of course it took the vibration away. because before you installed it you had a improperly installed stock driveshaft. If the drive shaft is not indexed then you WILL get a vibration.
