Hey all, just got done installing the American Thunder cat back on my 98 GT conv w/stock mid-pipe. First off, the fit kindof sucks.....it could be worse, but I had to elongate the mounting holes. Not easy using a hand drill, that's for sure. Other than that, the right side went pretty smooth, the left side muffler is pretty tight on that hanger, had a hell of a time trying to get everything lined up on the left. Just doesn't seem to fit quite right, but it's together. I just hope it doesn't push the keeper off the hanger because there is quite a bit of pressure on it.

The sound is good, kindof thought it would be louder though, I am definetly glad I didn't go with the Force II, I think it would have sounded close to the stock mufflers. Will this get any louder after burning out awhile? I am planning on buying a UPR cat midpipe in the future, but not anytime soon.

chambered mufflers do have a break in period so they should get a little bit louder over time

IMO, they don't get too much louder... you'll love the sound, but you'll be always wanting more volume...

I'm not doubting what you say but just need educated on how a muffler without and kind of packing to burn out will get louder after they break in? What is it that breaks in and allows for a noise change?

If you want louder, dont buy a catted midpipe...it'll deepen the tone, but, like in my case, it just aint much louder than it was with the OEM midpipe...maybe a bit, but the tone is what really changed. It's also louder when jumped on and revved up, but its more or less pretty quiet.

I have flows on my car and it did take a couple of weeks before they kind of kicked in. They're still a little tame when you're tame on the throttle, but they do roar when you kick it in. Works perfect for me in a 'vert.

I don't know about a break-in period, I've had mine on for over a year and it never got any louder than the day I put it on.

That sucks that it didn't fit on very well. Mine bolted up with no problems when I put it on the stock midpipe and fine again when I put on my prochamber. The only problem I have is it started rubbing against my rear axle going over rough bumps after a while...not sure if that's a problem with the exhaust kit or if it's because my rear end sagged a lot this summer.

I think there's a website that has a rather large archive of sound clips for mustang exhaust pieces, but I don't remember what it is offhand.

Yea the fit is horrible. Watch out the tailpipes rub on your brake lines . Want it louder you need off road mid pipe.

Yeah, when I was installing them, I had to make sure I tightned the clamps while holding the exhaust away from the brake lines. I checked it today and it clears the brake lines ok.

The off-road pipe will be coming soon. I live in a county with no state inspections woohoo!

If you want it to be louder then get a h-pipe. My friend and I both have the american thunder exhaust. I have a prochamber which sounds good, but his offroad mac h pipe sounds so sick.
