ok in the last 2 weeks my fuel pump has been acting wierd. it first started when the pump wouldnt prime when i got off work and heading home. now i have to turn key on and off a couple times even turn it on and wait a few seconds or well kinda minutes for it to prime. then yesterday it started to cut fuel when crusing, its done it to me about 4 times in last 2 days. I thought the pump was going bad so i put in a new pump this morning. everything was fine till t-nite on way home from girlfriends house and the pump didnt prime like it should had to wait a few seconds agian. any help would be appreciated. i have to work next 2 days but i was thinking that i should check the relay on my day off. i am not sure of how to check it but from my understanding it is under the driverseat.

Sounds like the fuel pump relay could be going bad or possibly the wiring.

or a bad ignition switch. is anything else not working or working funny? a poor connection at the inertia switch can also happen.

the FP relay is under the driver seat. i would probe all the terminals with a DMM and post back. you should have constant 12 volts, key on 12 volts, 12 volts output with the key on, and ground when the key is on.

good luck.

Replace the relays, they are right by the pass side shock tower, if that does not help, your pump is going out, this is common, replace it befor it goes out when you are far away from help....

I would recommend reading the original post and posts by others before posting.

do you have a late 91-93? if so, your FP relay might be on the pass strut tower - his wont be. that was addressed already. ditto for the NEW FUEL PUMP he has. To me it sounds like an electrical issues, not a pump issue anyhow. thanks for trying.

If the pump does not prime (audible sound)..it has nothing to do with the inertia switch...the pump will still atempt to prime..only now the fuel will not be available to create the pressure. I had intermittent issues like that...a new relay cured it (found under the seat in 87-88)..cheap and easy fix.
