Looks like the city of Kansas City is trying to buy KCIR and turn it into a park. I don't know all of the details, but my understanding is that it has been a long time coming. Residents built homes near the EXISTING dragstrip, and then complained when they were annoyed by the noise. From my preliminary understanding, some of the residents have money and power to actually get something done about it. I wouldn't be too surprised if it turns out the city threatened annexing the land, and just taking it outright.
Anyway, it is really a shame that we may loose this site. They just recently made improvements to the track, including new grand stands and repaving. Now, the next closest track for me is Topeka, which is 70 min from my house instead of 25 min. For sale: 88 mustang.
