I have a mild mannered 289, I plan on getting ceramic coated tri y headers and an h pipe. What mufflers would you guys and gals go with for a strong rumbly sound without alot of drone? Thanks in advance for your answers. I tried a search but I couldn't get the search option to work for some reason. Sorry for asking a question that has probably been answered a thousand times.

I like the Flowmaster delta flow 50's, for my 66. I also have the Tri-Ys with H-pipe. They sound great around town, but don't give you headaches on the highway.

Flowmaster has sound clips on their web site....

I think this one is mainly going to come down to opinion. I like my flows, but they're obviously ruled out by the famous 2k flow drone. Might want to do a search (if you can get it working) on the 5.0 forum, they write pages upon pages about exhaust every other day. It could be compiled into a book. Also if no one has mentioned it to you already check out
www.mustangexhaust.com
www.exhaustsoundclips.com
for a bunch of sound clips. With something like exhaust that you'll be hearing every day until you get it changed, you want to make sure YOU love it, not just going by others opinions.
Best o' luck.

ah.. without drone...

damn...

I would say flows but I can't stand the 50 series, friends with 390 FE and a Buick 455 both had cars with 50 series, and they both sounded... bleh at best...

And when I revved my 351 with 40s, both vowed to get 40s

Gotta be the 2 chamber flows....just add some better insulation in the car, keep the windows up, and don't drive 2k........which is easy to do, just put 4.11 in the rear and keep it in second gear when under 40 MPH

I have 40s. And it is awesome. Still need to add a crossover but you cannot go wrong with the 40 Series. The 50s were too muted for my liking. Check the Flowmaster webpage for sound clips.

I have Magnaflows on my 65.....very very very throaty, with no drone....

But really screams when I get on it......

Im now running Tri Ys and a Magnaflow X pipe as well, I had an H pipe before though.....

I have also been told that it sounds very sharp and very crisp

Ok I've decided to get the two chamber flowmaster and just deal with the drone. I'm not that old, I just want good sound. The car came with trumpet tips, should I put these on with the flows or not?
