so i pulled the trigger -- bought an 03 20th AE gti. has 59k on the clock, 1.8T w/ a 6-speed tranny, APR turbo-back exhaust & tune, a Neuspeed adjustable rear sway bar (makes it feel like a little go-kart!), and couple other odds/ends.

only pic i have:

going to wash all the bugs off, order some rear wheel spacers, and snap some decent pics.

don't wanna go too overboard w/ mods, but the first thing i'll be doing is projectors (maybe retrofiting) + hid's.

Oh, Paul, Paul, Paul, what have you done to yourself!!!??? What happened?!? Are you having problems? You know you can confide in me and I can help you get back on track buddy, c'mon, talk to me!! All has gone to hell since I haven't been in the valley, you go to VW, Rob won't pick up and fat bastard thinks he knows everything. The only one staying true is James, I better not jinx it though.

thanks, guys. i really enjoyed the 10+ hours i drove this weekend in the car.

the audi TT is the seller's reason for selling the gti. he was a really cool guy, very nice and made the sale very easy.

Nach: i wouldn't count your chickens just yet -- James is slowly moving to the dub-side. he's already talking about ditching the s/c for his cobra and dumping that money into building up the jetta! haha

yeah, i've always liked golfs/gti's -- glad to have one now. lots of aftermarket stuff (although it can get way more expensive than w/ stang stuff), a bit of performance, a bit of style, great mpg's, turbo, etc.

a co-worker has a tdi mk4 in reflex silver w/ BBS RC's -- cool little car. says he gets great mileage.

i'm on the vortex -- it's ok.. definitely doesn't compare to here, but it's one of the better vw forums/sites i've found so far. do you have any suggestions, Nik? i like their FAQ's and DIY's, plus lots of nice cars on there (like that 20th AE i posted as my inspiration for my car).

going to put the wheels i have on the Jetta on the gti w/in the next few days to see how i like them on there. also bought some spring clamps to give me an idea of what it'll look like dropped a tad more. after that, i'm probably gonna save for some retrofitted headlights w/ hid's -- there's a guy on the vortex that does some killer work.

i'll probably snap some pics once that's done (w/ the wheels, at least), so stay tuned.

Thread hijack WARNING!!!!

Maybe not so much, since the thread seems to be about a sister manufacturer to your VW's...

I am looking at Audi's. Specifically the A4. For a DD. I want to know if you guys know which is the better engine. I've heard that the 2.8l is a "glass jaw" and can have a lot of problems. The 1.8T, of course, CAN be modded to make more power but what else has to be done to keep it as reliable as stock? I really dont want to mod it. Just maybe tweak the boost a little. I'd leave a 2.8 alone.

Are there certain years to avoid? I definitely want a Quattro. I also want a 5 speed. Bad combination?

I wanna spend about $8k.

School me, like I was your good buddy that you wanted to see get a nice car.
