Have any of you had work done by Randy's Ring and Pinion (namely diffs and gears)? Thanks for any help?

My co worker is having his rearend worked on by them. He said they are the most well known in the are and do great work. He said they are also close to the cheapest so thats a plus.

Bought an 8" with 3.55 and Auburn LSD in it. Got a decent price on it ($731). It has been great so far.

More info on them -- I don't know anyone in the area, but was set to go down to Blood. Is this a better place or which does everyone prefer? Will they work on the rear in the car or want me to take it back out?

Randy's quoted me more than Brads did on a 3:55. so i went with Brads with FMS gears. i don't think anyone here questions the quality a Brads.

i think Randy's is well known because of their marketing not because of their quality.

I will never go back to Randy's after finding out about them.
Do a search, and you'll become aware of the lack of quality parts he sells and issues under the Yukon label. All from India.
I knew a salesman there last fall who said the staff had to afix "made in USA" stickers on all of the products after they came through recieving.
His Yukon crap howls and whines as bad as Richmond.
At Mike's old shop, Yukon was banned !!!

Ask Slapper how he feels about the quality of Randy's....lol do a search for Randy's Ring and Pinion in the NW section only, I believe Viperos started the thread that Slapper commented on....I personally have never had any work done by Randy's, but I know Slapper and trust his judgement, he knows his stuff.

Ok, so I guess I should ask again. I have all the components in my rear already -- I just need someone to fix the setup (ugh!). Who's the best to go see. Someone mentioned Blood's and I called and spoke with them -- seemed pretty good, but I want to make sure they're the best for the work I want done.

They're pretty close to me, I think I'll just stop by and talk to someone.

Does anyone disagree on these guys -- or does everyone think this place does excellent work?

That's a good idea. Talk to someone at Brad's and get an impression. No worries. I'll need to drive by and meet the folks at Brad's some day.
Lots of people seem to like them.
I suppose Finding a mechanic that you're comfortable with can be tough at times.
Alot of good ones get you in and out so quick, that they won't give you the time of day if you want to talk or ask questions. Too busy getting in the next one. You want someone who will treat you and your car with respect, and take the time to do things correctly, and at the same time not treat you like an idiot when you ask questions. I suppose it's like a doctor or dentist...whatever.
Ultimately, you're paying for it, so it should get done the way you want it.
It sucks to fork over $$$ and feel like you got boned at the same time.

I went down there and spoke to Brad himself, must have talked to him for about an hour or more. Seems like he really knows his stuff -- and not afraid to just talk either. I was impressed enough talking to him and his confidence in working on the rear in my car -- even though he didn't do the work to begin with -- that I cancelled my appointment at Blood's and made an appointment with him. My only dissapointment is that I couldn't get in there for two weeks! Oh well, hopefully it ends up being worth it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

BTW -- he was very friendly, and on the same level as me. He didn't talk down at all like alot of shop owners seem to do since you're asking them to do work. He also shared quite a few racing stories with me -- sounds like he's been around and seen alot, so hopefully his experience pays off. I'll let everyone know how my experience goes.

Any more input?
