Any of you with 4.6's raced an S10 V8?

Wondering how you guys with the 4.6 have done against S10 V8's? If you have run one or no someone that has let me know. and mention mods and what your car runs in the 1/4.

i haven't raced a V8 S10, but by your best E.T., stock 99+ GT's can beat you.

stock 5spd GT times are 13.7-14.2@100 depending on driver and conditions. a decent driver should be able to pull a 14.0.

my fastest time was 13.4@104 without a tune and before the exhaust. after the exhaust, it was much faster but i didn't get a chance to run at the track.

That is fine, I raced one before and lost by about a fender or so. With my future combo listed below and with some DR's I figure it will be alot different even if they are modded quite a bit.

What kind of fender are we talking about? Like a fender from an old Dusenburg? A boat trailder fender? A new corolla fender?

depends on the s10. i have one with a 305 in it and it's a decent truck but feel my stang would take it my truck has edel. air gap with carb and cam and 4.11's. but i also know a guy who owns one that runs low 10's on juice and slicks. all depends.

A friend of mine has one with a stock LT1 in it. On the motor, he runs 12's, and 11's with a 75 shot. This is also on a slammed airbag suspension....far from being set up for the track.

I think it would be a good race for a pre99 GT new ones would beat it up decently I think. Trucks are hard to launch so any decent driver in a sports car could take you out for the first 1/8th. Get some slicks a rear and a stroker then you won't have to worry about GT's anymore (well there are a few exceptions cough me)

V8 S10? I didn't know they could come with V8's? I thought only 4's and 6's.

it is a v8 conversion...it would be like a v6 mustang owner takin a gt engine and droppin it in his ride

An S10, with just an LT1 and just a 75 shot running 11's..... Your friend is lying to you.

A 350 S-10 with that kind of power is a low 13's truck at best. They may be small, but they're not all that light. I had a Ranger with a 5.0L HO with nothing special done to it and it was a 4X4 backed by an AOD, with 30" tires and dual gas tanks on top of that. I could hang with and/or outrun 350 S-10's all day long. Some were faster than others, but the difference between a 200hp S-10 and a 300+ hp S-10 on the street isn't more than a few tenths and a lot of tire smoke.

...and I used to get beat by your average bolt on Mustangs all day long!

There are several of them around here that run anywhere between 13.5-11.5. Beware though it doesnt take much to get them into the 12's.

You can jam a crap load of power into an S-10 with a V8 swap but they still come up short on traction. Unless you run a sweet suspension with sticky tires.

Yeah, this is what I always thought. Big engine in a light truck with no weight on the rear wheels is probably just going to burn tires.

Now the Lightning Bolt concept...that is another story...

Sticky tires is definately needed even with around 350hp. Slide a links are a necessity also. As for the weight of an s10 with a v8. My truck weighs in at 3007 with iron heads, subtract 50 lbs for the aluminum heads and you 2957 which is light. Take away the damn bench seat and you are even lower. Aluminum wheels will shed weight also. When my 385 is in I expect to run 11.5-11.7 with MT street radials.
