Just wondering anyone here can recommend a MC Bar that will successfully work with HEI distributor. I know Global West says they make one that will fit this application but I have heard that's not the case... This is for a 66 convertible.
I just installed a HEI in my 66 and I have not put my curved MC bar on yet. The issue I have is the wires are right up against the bottom of my air filter. I have a Performer RPM with a holly and flat air filter base. I don’t think it will hurt anything. Have you tried the standard curved one? Did you have problems with it fitting? It is over 100 degrees here today and I am just too hot to go work on my car.
I have a small open air filter on mine 10". I think you can get away with a 12" air cleaner but I haven't tried it. The problem I have is my distributor bumps right up against my coolant line going to the intake. I know I can get one of the nozzles that attach the hose from the side instead of the top. I just haven't done that yet.

You are indeed correct that the GW one does not fit an HEI distrib. That was my experience and I *****ed high and low about it here. I had Gram Messer (Dolphan87) custom make one for me for $150 plus shipping. I had to reuse the GW brackets that mount to the shock towers and rod ends. If you were to purchase these separately, these might bring your cost closer to $200. It is expensive relative to the other ones out there but it has some benefits the regular ones don't have.
First, it is made from 1 inch MOA tubing whic makes it tronger than anything else out there. Second, it has adjustable rod ends so you can fit to any application. You can pull the towers closer together if needed (which is highly doubtful) or spread them farther apart (much more likely). I am using a 14 inch filter with an HEI offset.

Not even close. I insalled it when I still had the stock distrib. I mounted the brackets flush up against the shock towers. Then when I got the new HEI, the bar made contact, even with the bend. To get it to fit, I would have had to move the brackets about 2 inches forward but I did not want new holes just a few inches from the old holes for reasons of structual integrity.
