Thinking about saving a few bucks and doing mine myself. The only 2 things I've heard that you have to do for sure for a good job is use a window cleaner with no amonia and use good tint. Anyone got any more details? What would be a good cleaner and good tint? TIA.
its not hard, but you need experiance doing it, i saw the guy do one of my cars and it looked simple, i tried it on mine and well its tough. i couldn't get it to look right so i had to pay, its easy on like pickup truck rear windown bc there flat and dont go up and down. All i can say is practice makes perfect i guess.
The guy used white vinegar to clean first then he put down some distilled water w/some soap so he could move it around to get it perfect. its tricky good luck buddy
Thanks, I like trying new things.....if they aren't too expensive Now I just gotta find out what tint to stay away from (a guy told me the tint shops use a better tint than what you'd get at say AutoZone).
My dad supervises the window tinters that put on "factory" tint for toyota so I know a little bit about it.
Main thing is take you time and don't be afraid to make a tiny mistake. Clean the window the BEST you can.. and try to stay away from wind =x
Basically, you should have a window or something big enough to stick the tint to before you put it on the car.
When the tint dries your ARE going to have bubbles. no doubt about it. Let it dry for a little bit so the bubbles show.. (some of them disappear) When it dries for a little.. the bigger bubbles can be pushed to the edges using a popsicle stick..(they actually do this at toyota too, lol)

I have picked up a few things from my friends have shops.I have tried it and its take some patience.Use a bondo type squeegee,on curved glass,lay it on the outside and use a heat gun to shrink the film and then cut to your size.Some of the better films are 3M,LLumar and Solar Guard.
I tinted for a few years and will say just take it to a pro. You could probably do the doors and quarters by yourself. If it's a hatch you may luck out if it's a coupe with a defroster you may luck out and if it is a coupe without a defroster don't even try it. Shaping the rear window takes patience and experience. If you leave the heat gun in one spot just a second to long you'll ruin that piece of tint.
By the time you bought the tint, the proper tools, and spent time doing it you would come out ahead letting someone who knows what they are doing work on it.
